Creating stories for the purpose of making a living means that if something is successful, it's a safe bet to make more of it. A lot of times, this works for both the creator and the fans. But I think we've reached a point where current creators are literally incapable of producing meaningful entries in franchises, especially if they're more than a couple decades old. Worse than these sequels and spinoffs being just 'bad,' they're just flat-out pointless - even if somehow they had been well-constructed.
