I'm an animator and genuinely have absolutely 0 interest in this movie. Genuinely, if people are looking for impressive visual effects work with appealing, fun, very impressive looking characters, then go watch Sonic 3. Unique character design and art styles will always be more appealing to me than going the full realism route. It's obviously impressive but when it comes to the point where these movies have to go out of their way to find ways to make the characters' faces more emotive when that's not how it would work in real life, then maybe that's a sign that we should be pursuing a different art style.

"That was perfectly enjoyable if I didn't have to pay $70 for my whole family." This. This is honestly why I've just had so little desire to go to a movie theater these days. Back in the day, if I really wasn't sure, I could just wait for it to come out in the dollar cinema right before home video. But sadly that's not really an option these days. Now it feels like such a big, idk if "financial risk" is the right term I'm looking for, but definitely along the lines of not wanting to waste a lot of money on something I probably won't even enjoy.

No one laughed at ANY of the Timon and Pumbaa jokes/scenes, literally NO ONE But I honestly loved the fact that Mufasa is afraid of water nearly the whole movie, he was traumatized as a child from it and he would do ANYTHING to not deal with it, even going head on with a pride of lions that he knew will off him, but the ending, him swimming up and what happened between him and Taka/Scar; chef’s kiss AND!! The reasoning behind the name Scar, I think it’s pretty neat and it adds something to the two brother’s relationship and how it’s broken after Scar’s betrayal. I pre-ordered the sound track, so I knew most of the lyrics before even going into the theater. One nit pick I had was that only three of the songs felt "Lion King" to me (and one is the opening chant). The rest felt out of place to me. Bit more stage play. I was amused when they didn't name Kiara's little brother, so it felt like they were acknowledging the old fan upheaval over Kopa/Kion.

I heard that Mufasa is adopted in this one. Was anybody else under the impression growing up that 1. Scar and Mufasa had the same parents. 2. Mufasa got the thrown cuz he was first born. And 3. Scar got his scar cuz he and Mufasa fought over the right to the thrown.
@missylks12393 күн бұрын
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Never thought about it. The first movie, Simba calls him Uncle Scar the entire time and Mufasa calls Scar “brother”. So, yes, I assumed the two had the same parents. Second, Scar overthrows Mufasa to take the crown. From a royalty standpoint, the first born inherits the thrown so, unless there is something different in the lion pride, I assumed Mufasa was the first born. Honestly, I just assumed the Scar was apart of his evil look.

I really dislike the “live action” digital animal thing. It doesn’t need to look like lions to tell a story and feels diminished by it. I think, aside from the monetary milking of a proven success, it stems from this very American - and kind of dated outlook that 2-D animation codes as entertainment for small children. Meanwhile those of us (tons of millennials) raised on anime - as Japan not only trusts their children with more complex and mature themes but also uses animation to tell stories definitely not for children - don’t mind animation, nor subtitles. This even seems to invert that in using hyper realism to tell a very simple story for children - hoping to lure adults who scorn 2D animation? To bring the 90’s kids back to theaters with nostalgia but with this weird “this isn’t a cartoon because you’re grown up now! - please watch!” - No one asked for this. The live action inspired-ish remake we liked was Hook. Remakes hit differently when the cast is fully or 99% human … which is why Cinderella LA was good and Beauty and the Beast LA was creepy. The only thing I liked about the Lion King remake - which felt like some hellish MST3K of a nature documentary was John Oliver who has long had this self deprecating thing about looking like a bird proficient at math and sounding so obnoxiously British that hearing him may get your ears colonized. Great voice for Zazu but the movie is so boring to watch. No one asked for this!

The second time, I already knew what to expect, so I enjoyed the visuals sound and songs much more (I don't know why but the first time I did find Timon and Pumba a bit annoying. Strangely enough, the second time they didn't bother me at all 🤔). I liked how they presented two cubs with completely different life circumstances, showing how they face challenges in very different ways, only to inevitably clash in the end. It was never going to be as epic as the first one, and I honestly didn’t expect it to be, but I think it’s entertaining enough that I didn’t mind paying to see it twice, especially since it’s been years since I paid to watch a Disney movie in theaters 😅

The Lion King fandom largely consists of people who have been fans for 30 years and especially fans of spin-off or tie-in material that does get a lot of references in this film, Taka’s name being the biggest one. But I don’t think this movie was really made for them either, it’s different enough that it’s not.

It isn't for the truelly dedicated Lion King Fans....I am one and I HATE that they messed with the story line and changed Mufasa and Taka's backstory. I will give them credit that the way the Lions look and emote etc in this film is 1000x better than the first but it's still a hard nope for me. The Lion King is my favourite disney film and I have been obsessed ever since a small child, had all the books, annoyed the heck out of my family watching the movie until the VHS refused to play. I also think the sequel was really good! Simba's Pride is very underated, I know Disney has a bad track record for sequels but that one is definitely worth watching. Taka and Mufasa are biological brothers though, their parents are Ahadi and Uru!! There were books I had as a child called "The Lion King: Six New Adventures" and they had the official Disney logo and copyrights. They had an actual book called the "Tale of Two Brother's" too in this series with both Mufasa and Taka in it who recieves his scar from a Buffalo however in true Disney fashion they created so many inconsistincies and in the animated show "The Lion Guard" a Cobra is the reason for Taka/Scar's scar...now in this film it's Kiros the lion ? I just can't...I refuse to acknowledge this movie as cannon for the Lion King's storyline sorry. Just a hard nope for me. The Lion King means so much to me and seeing it being changed all the time is really frustrating. I will just cherish the original film and childhood books I grew up with instead as well as the sequel. The rest are meh.

yeah, i liked this one better than the first one, because at least it was something a little more original and not just a lower quality copy and paste of the og animation. it was actually very well done, the cgi was much improved, and there was some very beautiful scenes. but i must say i hated pretty much all the timon and pumba scenes, and personally i wasn't feeling most of the songs either (though like one or two were pretty okay), and the movie as a whole just kinda made me feel bad for taka/scar. i won't lie, outside of taka's betrayal (which was obviously messed up like i'm not defending that), it didn't really make me root for mufasa. i was kinda rolling my eyes a lot at the end. didn't really feel like mufasa deserved his kingship, and like you said, he was such a mary sue that he kinda just got annoying. mufasa's character as he was would have made a much more compelling royal guard loyal to a king (taka) who is intelligent and bold but less physically capable. they would have been a great duo with mufasa as the right hand (paw?) man, like they were intended to become while growing up. honestly just would have been a much more interesting story that way. but i know, i know, then it wouldn't have been the lion king, because that's not how the events of the story go. so long story short, they should have just made an original story with lions in the same universe, but not necessarily related to the lions in the og lion king story. as it was with competing great and trash scenes, it was a weird, half-baked movie.

I loved the movie, the storytelling and the characters. If you love the original Lion King, just give it a chance ❤

Come on Disney! We want new and inspiring stories! Stuff to get us through the dark times and to make us laugh! The classics were fine as they were. Give us a story we haven’t heard before!

Just not this story

So glad we didn’t see this.. the level of sound their talking about would have sent my son and daughter to cover their ears and cry

I adore the OG Lion King movie and loved the second one back when it came out but the "live action" one was such a let down I'm not going to the cinema for this. I'll watch it eventually I'm sure.

I just watched it. I am easily entertained. All I wanted was a fun enjoyable movie. And I got bored. I agree watch movies in the theater. Some movies are just one and done.

Saw the wrong movie lol. But I do appreciate you all seeing this so I don't have to yet xD

Timon, pumba, nala, and Simba felt so forced. Kiara made sense but then they undermined her heir to the throne w a new little brother at the end like excuse me???!!? Where did he come from?! Where is Kovu?! Hold on!! Y'all are changing narratives that we as fans enjoyed! Lion king 2 Simbas pride was a great sequel! With a couple reallly good songs!! And they basically were like ... mm. Let's do this way less interesting thing 🥴😒

Oh my. The Cinema Therapy guys try way too hard to be kind.

I thought the songs were possibly the most forgettable part of the movie. I didn't care about them at all and they just felt derivative of good Lin Manuel Miranda songs.

I can be a cynical move reviewer, but I try to stay positive when watching movies with my Mom who’s a very generous reviewer, but I was surprised that when we left the theater she was the one complaining the most 😂

Meerkat and Lions have similar life spans... how many years are between the lion King and this movie?... warthog life span is almost half that of Lions and Meerkats... so pumba is in his final years in the lion king.

Haven't seen it but from clips and trailers, I assume Timon and Pumba are narrators so the story is told to Simba or to his and Nala's kid so they're not really there with Mufasa(if they are in the same timeline as Mufasa I definitely have so many questions).

I really need a moratorium on Lin-Manuel Miranda for a decade. There are other composers out there, Disney! damn

I loved the movie. I love The Lion King. I cried most of the movie, but I do believe that there were a few weak points. I never really cared about Timon and Pumba before, and their jokes were unnecessary. This movie is also not aplicable to the original 1994 movie. I feel like many of the weak points (and the not eating and Mufasa being a mary sue) is largely because of time constraints. So much was happening constantly. There just wasn't time for good pacing. So I guess that means some rewriting could have been done.

I haven't watched any live action movie from Disney so far. I feel like movies are lacking a lot of quality in general lately

"Visuals and sound" aren't good enough for me, personally. I don't go to watch a movie to look at it and listen, I go to be told a good story. I'd also argue that animals DO emote in their faces - Google 'sad lion cub face' and there's no mistaking the mood from those eyes.

It had some good parts but the stort didn't give much compared to the first movie. Also some scenes where unnecessarily long when they could have benn shorter. Now to my least favorite point ,the music. Maybe its just me but the lyrics weren't even on a similar scale to the original soundtrack from the 1st movie. It's watchable but I wouldn't recommend this.😅

Ouch. I actually loved this movie. I feel like it was leaps above the quality of the first movie (live/no live action).
