Scars and Mufasa’s backstory reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite book series. “You can either have my loyalty or my obedience, you can’t have both” Obedience can be forced which is exactly what Scar did during his reign, but loyalty has to be given freely and deserved.

I've always been interested in learning the story of the antagonist in any story. And at the moment 0:58, it's as if I myself feel all the confusion and injustice that the Scar feels. I've never liked the concept of "he's evil because he's evil," and I feel like they're going to show something like that this time.

Without watching this movie I feel like the reason behind Scar’s horrible behavior is that he views a kingdom as a possession, something that can be owned and controlled whereas Mufasa views it as a responsibility to protect and nurture others so that they may thrive. Taka seems to struggle with the fact that your bloodline does not dictate your worthiness to rule. He never understood that everyone’s love for Mufasa came from how he helped and respected them.
