Thank you and welcome! Yes, I do not own a saw with a stock muffler.😁
@SomeGuysSawShop Жыл бұрын
It’s an interesting design, one of the things is that seems like ALOT of outlet for a stock saw, you put that on a ported saw and I’m sure it’ll make a pretty significant power increase, pipes are definitely fickle though and take lots of work. The ones I’ve done I’ve had to do a lot of work in cad and flow sims to get them to preform as well as they do
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
Yes! Ported saws are my thing, so that was the reasoning as well as the test ground for building this type of muffler cover for the Stihl saws. After I port my 462, I expect this cover to accentuate the build much better than it does stock. However, I was very impressed to see how much it woke up the ms400. I run it on both of my 400’s and they are different saws with it installed!👍🏻. Thanks for the comment, stay tuned and saw safe!

Great video! Awesome info! The 5xx series Husky and Echo mufflers have alot of restriction. How do you do the custom paint on the dawgs to hold up?
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'll be dropping a video later today on the 5xx Husky muffler mods as a matter of fact 🤣👍 Stay tuned and check it out! All I do on the paint is bake each coat and put on 2 good coats of clear and bake them too. I wont say it hold up great, but it's the best way I've found without powder coating. G'day Kirk, I've had my 400C since they came out and It felt like a ported saw from stock something to do with that Magnesium piston perhaps market leading RPM off the shelf, I'm interested in one of your covers but I would need the mesh to keep the mud wasps out 👍.
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Unfortunately, I'm not currently making these covers for production, they are still experimental at this point. They definitely wake up the ms400 when used with the RBS intake! My ms400 out of the box was a total dog, slow as heck! It wasn't until I started making mods and getting some more run time on it (breaking it in) that it started waking up. I'm very pleased with it thus far however. I have high hopes for my 462 when I get the time to port it, and finish breaking it in as well. Thanks for commenting, stay tuned and Saw Safe!

Is it true that muffler mods help older smaller saws more. Example 028 because they were very choked back then.
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
That's kind of a loaded question by how old & how small?🤣 Since you referenced the 028, I will say yes. I don't personally have an 028, but other similar saws from that same era and newer, typically benefit tremendously from muffler mods. They are so choked (as you said too) that they just build heat to burn clean, but lose a lot of power in the process. I hope this helps, stay tuned to the channel and Saw Safe!

Thank you for your inspiring video to improve the power of the Stihls. I run a 400 for two years now, and have recently sponteneously opened up the factory outlet 2.5 times (which is about 125% of the exhaust port I discovered!). But now I am afraid this is to big, since some people say the outlet size should maximum be about 80% of the exhaust port in order to hold some backpressure for the scavenging function, and now I will loose both torque and rpm compared to when I would have opened it a bit less, but what do you think? Can I go wrong with this outlet size or should I make it smaller? Or does the backpressure not play a (significant) role at the 400? By the way, I have runned the 400 for a second without the front muffler cover at all, and then it screames realy fast! What is the size of your tótal outlet area (from the pipe at the front + from the factory hole together) of the mod muffer in the video? And from the factory front cover with the melded pipe + the factory outlet, which you also showed in the video, to best compare it to my situation? Thank you!

I think max hole is 80%, iven race motor.

I've heard that for stock saws a muffler mod outer exhaust opening(s) or pipes should be somewhere around 70% in size or diameter of the exhaust port opening. Do you know if that includes the existing factory pipe along with the modded pipe, or just the added pipe mod be up to the 70% size of the exhaust port? I hope this makes sense. 16:12
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
I’m not certain to be honest with you… I’ve always found the best performance with the discharge pipe about the same size as the exhaust port on chainsaws with factory cans. Now if you’re going to get into building a full pipe, then that’s a totally different story all together. But for the little bit of room to work with on these, I go same size. Thanks for the comment! Saw safe!
@wilfreyvanderlinden959510 ай бұрын
Thank you@@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws, just to clarify, do you mean with 'discharge pipe' the added pipe (besides the factory outlet), or the total outlet size (added pipe + factory outlet)? In other words, do you mean that you find the best performance with the total outlet area about the same size as the exhaust port, or just from the discharge/added pipe being about the same size as the exhause port?

Did you do the field reset procedure after you installed the muffler covers? I think thet has something to do with the autotune saws being slower/faster depending on muffler covers.

How much is it for a 310😊
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I’m not making these for production at this time. Furthermore, the 310 has a 1-piece muffler with a deflector plate in the front, so you would have to modify your muffler on that saw. A bolt-on cover will not work in that application. Thank you for asking though, saw safe!

The second saw you used wasn't warmed up on the first cut. The second cut the saw performed better because it was warmed up
@Kirks_Custom_Chainsaws Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment, however that is not correct. Both saws were properly warmed up and cut with off camera prior to the start of the video. The second saw (ms400) only had 0.16 seconds difference from the first cut to the second cut. And the second cut was the straight cut which is typically faster anyway. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!👍👍
