I also had this problem too where I didn't talk much to my parents. But I think the first step to been more opening with them is to build a relationship where you by little talk to parents about how their day was and how yours were and then grow with that where the next day you can talk them about maybe what your teacher and someone said to u today and then this will help build a relationship where can talk about anything. But this takes time and the first step changes everything. I myself did not have a good relationship with my father and now we talk about everything and anything.N forget to Make duas . This was what I did, so maybe you can try it too

Halal “dating” in theory sounds like a way more functional form of courtship but it looks completely impossible to do in America. It’s really on the nose because it starts with the very assumption that you’re looking at someone as a potential spouse and the family is immediately involved. The couple can’t get physically intimate before marriage, which is so disconnected with the west I can barely fathom doing it.

How would one navigate this when they are a convert? I grew up in a hard stance Christian family and converted. I'm actually not sure if I converted that my father would even want to involve himself in wanting to do that. He's protective lol but idk if he would want to involve himself in that way....in a Islamic way. He's a southern black Christian man

The wali doesnt have to be your father it can be your paternal grandfather, brother, paternal uncle or any male relative from your paternal side. If this isnt possible the imam can step in as your wali

I watched this Q&A from the beginning cause I want to learn and see how older people think of relationships. Wallahi in Nigeria lemme specify the yoruba parent have it in the culture to meet the spouse along the line. I can't walk up to my mum and say I like a guy because she pretty much say it as an insult when I do something wrong. And it is so hard on the youth here because the parents have your own life planned for you. They want to tell you when you start everything including when you start liking someone. May Allah guide us all we are so helpless against them wallahi because when you talk they make it look like you are being extreme with your islam and you just get confused and make many wrong decision at the end of the day

My family and I are all Muslim and My sister dated her boyfriend before she married and those dates were not supervised by anyone then on the third date my sister brought him home and then she introduced him to us as her boyfriend and she said that the only approval that she cared about was my approval because she said that she doesn't care for our dads approval but only mine so she saw how I got along with him and how our mom got along with him and how. Our brother got along with him and how our grandpa got along with him then and only then did she continue to see him and down the road my dad started approving of him once he saw how happy my sister was a few years go by and she gets married to him and no it wasn't an arranged marriage it was a love marriage and to this day they are still together

I'm a Muslim girl, not super religious but just like any other Muslim. Seeing what marriages have become nowadays & what guys do to their wives i've lost faith in marraige & relations. If I could I would never marry but it's not how it works. I've left it to ALLAH & my parents, whatever they want me to marry i'll just say yes (brings tears to my eyes) or even if they can't get me married (because of money, dowry or whatever) i'll just say it was ALLAH's will. What is the point of marrying if you can't get what you want in a person? I'm 28, I don't have a bf or anything (as I said earlier i've lost hope in such things) & guys here don't interest me. I may see a face that I like on a video but I know what the reality is once you get married everything changes. People sometimes say such hurtful things to me because in our culture a girl in her late 20's should already be married but also in our culture girls don't get to decide (there are exceptions) . People who tell me i'm too old I want to tell them "because it's upto my parents". I'm so fed up with my relatives like it's my fault that i'm not married yet. Shouldn't they be grateful that I didn't runaway with someone or disobey & disgrace my parents? You know what I want? I am well educated (Masters degree in English Literature), young I want to have a job, I want to enjoy my life (not sin), live without stress, travel the world help people, take care of my parents, love animals & don't end up in hell, marriage & bf's are not even on the list (children & pets are) but that doesn't happen in this world.
