Mwari wa ithe witu Assalaam alaykum! I was born and raised as a staunch Christian- my father taught me how to study (not to just read) the Bible on my own when I was 10. At 11 I decided to be an active church member (meaning I used to fulfill all rituals of a Christian as per our church). But little did I know that I was suffering from a spiritual thirst- the more I tried to be a good Christian the more I thirsted. I had soo many questions about Christ and Christianity that I couldn’t get answers to -even from among the well knowledgeable Christians- like my father, priests and pastors. When I was in the university I started to read the Bible, verse by verse, chapter by chapters and book by book (especially the New Testament)- very slowly while seeking guidance from Christians’ publications/literature and by comparing different version of the Bible both in English and in my mother tongue so that I may understand. I dedicated a great deal of time studying the Bible in quietness. But my spiritual thirst continued to grow. I started to study the history of Christianity from the time of Jesus up-to-date; I undertook courses like Christology, the life and teachings of Paul among others. I revisited the resolutions of the seven ecumenical councils and various heresies such as Arianism, Gnosticism among others. i studied the believes of other regions such as Buddhists, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, Rastafarianism, bahai e.t.c. But still my spiritual thirst persisted. When I finished reading the Bible up to the book of Revelation I got into a kind of spiritual breakdown - I realized that the Christ that I have been taught right from nursery school, at home, at church,and in the Tvs, radios and streets was different from the Christ I have come to know from the Bible. At this point I was not sure what to believe about Christ and Christianity. I now decide to confront God by asking Him questions such as Who are You God? What is Your will? During this period I was very distressed and afraid. Then after a month of grappling on what to believe or not to believe, one day a voice whispered to my ears and asked me, “ what was the religion of Abraham (whom is referred to as the father of faith)- was he a Christian, a Jew? Think about Enoch (who never tasted death), what was his religion? What was the religion of Noah- the man I saved from the floods. All these men were neither Christians nor Jew and yet these are the people whom I was well pleased with. Do you know why?? its because they had fully submitted themselves to Me and were my friends. I did not create mankind to be good Christians as you are seeking to be. I created mankind to be my slave/servant who fully submits himself to me. Christ came to bring the humankind back to me after he went astray. Being with me is all what I want of humankind. As from now I want you to live as my friend and submit yourself fully to Me. As such, a new spiritual journey for me began immediately-I started to study how Abraham, Noah and Enoch lived. Then I learned that they all lived as total submitters to their maker- which is simply Islam. Today, I consider it a miracle from Allah that He opened a door to Islam for me- I used to detest Islam before. Today, as a Muslim my spiritual thirst has been fully quenched. May Allah continual guiding me on a straight way Ameen. Ponder about this, "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it! (Mathew 13: 45-46)
