He could get damaged from his own explosions. When fighting Josuke, he threw a bubble that Josuke dodged by running straight to him (he didn't blow it up to prevent him from getting hurt)

Fancy Charles Killer Queen protected Kira from the explosion in the room by staying bethween them. But Kira's explosions defy logic anyways and it's a show about Punch Ghosts so yeah.
