The songs meaning according to singer Myles Kennedy - "Blackbird was inspired lyrically by a friend of mine named Mark Morse. He sold me my first guitar when i was a kid , and we stayed friends for years and years. He actually passed away as the song was being completed so it was dedicated to him amd his memory. It's really about seeing the suffering he was going through and hoping he would find his solace soon and be free from all of that".

That guitar solo is done first half more bluesy by vocalist Myles Kennedy and second half - more technical and shreddy by lead guitarist Mark Tremonti! The solo serves the song in that, it expresses musically what words / lyrics cannot …. The bluesy part is sheer crying out and sadness of loss; while the technical part shifts from also crying out towards anger! And then the chorus kicks in right after to once again exalt and celebrate in the beauty and life of the lost loved one, knowing that they are now in a better place! Awesome composition and musicianship this song is! Great band💪

It’s not really blues though in the scale or sequence of notes by Miles, it’s just that there’s emotion and soul behind the vibrato and phrasing. We could link everything back to blues until we’re blue in the face, but sometimes art forms are their own thing.

Great reaction! This song means A LOT to me and obviously many others. People sleep on Alter Bridge, which I think is criminal. So underrated…but they are amazing! Just wait, you’ll see. Lol

The slower blusey solos are played bt the singer Myles Kennedy and the faster more technical solos are played by Mark Tremonti. Both are very capable players.

I've been listening to them since the beginning (they used to be Creed before the lead singer left!) and this is my favourite song - other than for personal loss reasons - it's down to the pure EXPERIENCE you get listening to it. The emotion you get from the instruments and Myle's voice perfectly complement each other. The double guitar solo being the ascension and send off is unlike something I've ever heard.

I love this song for many reasons. Another song you would love by Alter Bridge is Words Darker Than Their Wings.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone has recommended it already, but Myles Kennedy, the lead singer, has a couple solo CDs out. Well, he has three and as much of a fan as I am, I haven't listened to the first one. But it predates Alter Bridge and he has two solo albums out after the band formed. One is Year of the Tiger and the other is Ides of March. His sound on those albums are more bluesy rather than the rock sound of Alter Bridge.

Man, you don't miss anything. The lyrics, the layering, everything. One of the best modern heavy rock bands today. Super under-rated. Great reaction.

BTW, the lead singer played the bluesy part and the lead guitarist finished it off with a little shredding in the crescendo.

Boi, if i had known you were on this.... I have no money, but try out the From One album by Ra on your own time. You wont be disappointed. A general rule of thumb in alternative rock is "Alter Bridge is the best band no one ever listens to, and Ra is the best band no one's ever heard of."
