Interestingly 90 percent of these strange names were codes for common herbs. It was common dor eitches and apothecaries in those days to speak in code to protect the identities of the ingredients. 'Toe of Frog' referred to the Buttercup for example. 'Fillet of Fenny Snske' referred to the root of a plant in the Arum family: Indian Turnip which is also called Jack-in-the-pulpit. The designation 'fenny' meant that it grew in fens or bogs. Amusingly Eye of Newt just referred to mustard seed.

Very cool facts! I did realize this while preparing for the project, but decided it would be more interesting to go more literal with it.

OMG! I love making potions and you and Chantal have given me new ideas for my Halloween potion shelf. One of my favorite supplies for potion ingredients is the fishing section in the dollar store. You can find fake worms, toads, plants, strange bugs, little fish pieces… they are made with some “jelly” plastic and the are so realistic😻😻. I also make eye balls with little stirofoam balls with painted pupils. I also love your labels so much! Thank you Danny and Chantal!

I wonder how glycerine would work as the liquid in your beautiful potion art?
@angieallen48842 жыл бұрын
Fantastic! I am so excited to make this for my daughter who is a librarian and HP potions fan, so the Macbeth reference is perfect. Love your content and am never disappointed! I think I won't add the liquid to the fur or wing since those particular things would not need to be preserved like the other "organic" materials. Although I did like your idea of the lizard parts being put in dry, too.

Awesome Work!!! One tip I would offer is to put a little Plastic Wrap around your corks--do trim off the excess so it doesn't show--and your liquid water potions will not evaporate---I have some that have lasted for many years. I LOVE the crackle finished one too!

"Song of the Witches" - William Shakespeare - Macbeth, Act IV, Scene I (1606) double, double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble. fillet of a fenny snake, in the cauldron boil and bake. eye of newt and toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog, adder's fork and blind worm's sting, lizard's leg and howler's wing, for a charm of powerful trouble, like a hell-broth boil and bubble. double, double boil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble. cool it with a baboon's blood, then the charm is firm and good.

Hi love your work and been following Chantel since hagrids hut I love her creations. Since most of my art supplies are stored in recycled coffee jars would you have any ideas for decorating storage pots and jars to hide hot glue sticks stuff like that I don’t have a lot of space for decoration items, I’m thinking Harry Potter themed working art shelves Thanks for the videos

I did not know that about the poem.. wow.. learn new things Especially with you ever day... Thank you...! After seeing in the bottles, yeah, does look gross !!! * at 2:58 Love when you were trying to find the bottles... '' Where are the bottles''... Just saying, I would have put at least one of each ingredient in the big bottle just if someone was looking closely, and a bit glow in the dark powder on the Eye of Newt just to make it pop a bit.. But everything was great just saying..!!

This was probably already said by someone else, but... FUN FACT: these ingredients names were actually just nicknames for real ingredients! The "Eye of Newt", for instance, is actually Mustard seeds ^^
@wizardryworkshop2 жыл бұрын
True! However I'm pretty sure it was meant in the literal sense in the poem from Macbeth. Especially if you look at the second set of ingredients, which I didn't include.
@Jully5Jullyet2 жыл бұрын
@@wizardryworkshop Oh, Hi! Thank you for replying! Considering Shakespeare's sense of humor, you are probably right XDDD I found a link with the possible 20 "real" ingredients he based on for this poem, if you ever want to check it out ^^ In any case, great video! The final product looks amazing and the old glass effect on the main potion became really cool. I just wanted to share this fun fact that brought me joy when I learned XD
