Muggsy Bogues was as quick as a cat and could dish out dimes like nobody else in his time in the NBA.

I saw Muggsy at the grocery store a few months back and said..."muuuuggssssyy" and he replied with "what up, big guy?" We're the same height. Humble dude and a great player.

Muggsy was just a pure point guard. He's one of those guys, when you're picking teams, you always want to be on his team, Not just because he was great, which he was, but because he always made everyone around him better. You know he is going to make the right play every time. And if you're open he will get you the ball exactly where you want it.

@@GrahamCStrouse you bet . Look at his speed, playing with normal/regular people /players he dont need to pass the ball even, he wins the game by himself, on every single fast break LOL I bet his 100m time must be real close to the olympic record, for sure

You are all missing the other important component here. Only a portion of turnovers come off steals or poor dribbling. A huge chunk come from wild passes. And as much as Muggsy passed, it's amazing he had so few that were off-target

@RAGEAlanBun
@RAGEAlanBun 8 жыл бұрын
That's not how it works in this case. Take a similar example. Say someone plays 2001 - 2005. Using that logic they would have played 4 years (5-1) but they actually played 5 years (2001,2002,2003,2004,2005) You forget than in actual maths you are taking away the lower number, but in this case, he played 1987 - 2001, including those years. These are the years he played: 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 Count them up and you'll see it's 15.

Insane skills. He used his size as an advantage because he was closer to the ground so he had more control of the ball, besides big players had a hard time to lean that low to get the ball from him. And his light and speed was a match to any other player there.

You have to ask yourself... If this man could compete well at the NBA level, at only five foot 3 inches tall... Could you imagine what he could have accomplished at even six feet tall?? People don't realize that when you are at a major disadvantage you have to be that much better to compete. God knows how far this man would have made it if he was born six foot six like Jordan. Perhaps we would have had a new best basketball player of all time.

Muggsy's ability to handle the basketball was a thing of beauty. Think about how impressive it is to lead the NBA in assist/turnover ratio for 5 years at 5'3? Guys covering MB were a foot taller or more, you would would think it would be difficult for him to pass the ball!! I remember an interview I saw with Bogues' high school coach Bob Wade. He said something that has always stuck with me: "Muggsy could not be pressed, ever." Why? He could dribble with his head up like most of us casually stroll and he had such extreme quickness that it was literally futile to pressure him. It was a privilege to watch him play basketball.

Bogues made it in the NBA despite his height because he had an outrageous 44-inch vertical leap. Pretty simple.
@FilipoSooaUlufale

CognizantCheddar Muggsy Bogues started the '97-'98 season as a Charlotte Hornet, but he only played in 2 games before getting traded to Golden State in exchange for B.J. Armstrong. Playing in only two games (both of them as a backup point guard to David Wesley) for Charlotte, averaging 8.0 minutes per game, 3.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.0 bpg, 1.0 spg) prior to getting traded to Golden State must've signified somewhat of a sad ending to an otherwise historical Charlotte Hornets playing career from '88-'89 to merely two games in '97-'98. Was it Muggsy's chronic knee injuries that forced him to permanently hand over the starting PG job to David Wesley before getting forced out by George Shinn just two games into the '97-'98 season? Or was it then-Hornets coach Dave Cowens' intent to cut Muggsy's playing time to 8 minutes per game just to save himself from blowing out his knees again that upset him.

I never thought size was important, actually I thought the smaller you are the more advantage you have especially over taller players. Look at Earl Boykins, Allen Iverson, Tim Hardaway, John Stockton, Spud Webb. Surely these guys aren't the most strong or the tallest, but they just dominate the floor by just pure talent and raw skill.

I don't follow the game much, although this video was extremely entertaining! I'm sorry to say I had never heard of Muggsy Bogues before I happened to be watching an episode of "Royal Pains" and he was a guest star. What fun! And I could see how his size was a great benefit to his game skills...sneak right under the noses of the 6 1/2 foot players. : )

There is nobody short enough talented enough and driven enough to go to the nba Muggsy was driven to be a baller before he was even 10 years old he was putting in twice the work as a naturally gifted person height wise, people today think the nba is only for tall guys thats why nobody as short or shorter than muggsy has ever been signed causs nobody is willing to go the distance and its sad.

Well, talent comes in different shapes, and he made of his disadvantage of height, an advantage of speed and quickness. Add to that he was a baller, very smart tactically and got a lot of heart. He's definitely very underrated!!!

Might be one of the toughest players ever. Loved watching this guy ball out in the 90s. He was so so fast. In transition he was deadly. If only LJ and Alonzo got along, those Charlotte teams were really solid.

I used to get a kick outta watching Muggsy play because, in the normal realm of things, he was average height but on an NBA court, he really did look like a midget. You quickly forgot that though once you watched him play. I'd be hard pressed to think of a player who had better ball handling skills. Watching him drive the court with the ball was smooth as silk. Flawless. And not only smooth but, fast...one of the cleanest dribbles I've ever seen...before, during or since.
