Muggsy Bogues was as quick as a cat and could dish out dimes like nobody else in his time in the NBA.

I saw Muggsy at the grocery store a few months back and said..."muuuuggssssyy" and he replied with "what up, big guy?" We're the same height. Humble dude and a great player.
@GrahamCStrouse9 жыл бұрын
Muggsy was just a pure point guard. He's one of those guys, when you're picking teams, you always want to be on his team, Not just because he was great, which he was, but because he always made everyone around him better. You know he is going to make the right play every time. And if you're open he will get you the ball exactly where you want it.

@RAGEAlanBun8 жыл бұрын
That's not how it works in this case. Take a similar example. Say someone plays 2001 - 2005. Using that logic they would have played 4 years (5-1) but they actually played 5 years (2001,2002,2003,2004,2005) You forget than in actual maths you are taking away the lower number, but in this case, he played 1987 - 2001, including those years. These are the years he played: 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 Count them up and you'll see it's 15.

Muggsy's ability to handle the basketball was a thing of beauty. Think about how impressive it is to lead the NBA in assist/turnover ratio for 5 years at 5'3? Guys covering MB were a foot taller or more, you would would think it would be difficult for him to pass the ball!! I remember an interview I saw with Bogues' high school coach Bob Wade. He said something that has always stuck with me: "Muggsy could not be pressed, ever." Why? He could dribble with his head up like most of us casually stroll and he had such extreme quickness that it was literally futile to pressure him. It was a privilege to watch him play basketball.

Bogues made it in the NBA despite his height because he had an outrageous 44-inch vertical leap. Pretty simple.
@FilipoSooaUlufale10 жыл бұрын
CognizantCheddar Muggsy Bogues started the '97-'98 season as a Charlotte Hornet, but he only played in 2 games before getting traded to Golden State in exchange for B.J. Armstrong. Playing in only two games (both of them as a backup point guard to David Wesley) for Charlotte, averaging 8.0 minutes per game, 3.0 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 0.0 bpg, 1.0 spg) prior to getting traded to Golden State must've signified somewhat of a sad ending to an otherwise historical Charlotte Hornets playing career from '88-'89 to merely two games in '97-'98. Was it Muggsy's chronic knee injuries that forced him to permanently hand over the starting PG job to David Wesley before getting forced out by George Shinn just two games into the '97-'98 season? Or was it then-Hornets coach Dave Cowens' intent to cut Muggsy's playing time to 8 minutes per game just to save himself from blowing out his knees again that upset him.

Well, talent comes in different shapes, and he made of his disadvantage of height, an advantage of speed and quickness. Add to that he was a baller, very smart tactically and got a lot of heart. He's definitely very underrated!!!

I used to get a kick outta watching Muggsy play because, in the normal realm of things, he was average height but on an NBA court, he really did look like a midget. You quickly forgot that though once you watched him play. I'd be hard pressed to think of a player who had better ball handling skills. Watching him drive the court with the ball was smooth as silk. Flawless. And not only smooth but, fast...one of the cleanest dribbles I've ever seen...before, during or since.

5'3 isnt average height

Bryson Hamilton LoL...I know that. I was generalizing.
@BlanBlan199019909 жыл бұрын
Steve E No you weren't generalizing, you just made a factually incorrect statement. Muggsy is a good 6 inches below average height

Dee Blan damn bro. You took that shit personal

Tim Rodriguez I think the word you were looking for was "literally". I didn't took anything personally, I just corrected him.

5'3 in the NBA, stripping Scottie Pippen, top 20 all time in assists. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do something.

@@kingphil4073with your attitude there are definitely things you can’t do but you should really listen to his advice and not let anyone (mainly yourself I’m guessing), tell you you can’t do something
