سلیمان بن صرد الخزاعی (Sulaiman ibn Surad al-Khuza'i) was an important figure in early Islamic history, particularly known for his role in the events following the martyrdom of Imam Hussein at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.
Background and Early Life
سلیمان بن صرد الخزاعی was from the tribe of Banu Khazaa, an Arab tribe that had converted to Islam.
He was a companion of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and participated in various battles during the early Islamic period.
Role in the Movement of Tawwabin
After the tragedy of Karbala, in which Imam Hussein and his companions were martyred by the forces of Yazid ibn Muawiya, there was widespread regret and guilt among the people of Kufa for not supporting Imam Hussein.
سلیمان بن صرد الخزاعی became the leader of a movement known as the "Tawwabin" (the Penitents), which was a group of people from Kufa who sought to atone for their failure to support Imam Hussein by fighting against the Umayyad forces.
He organized a rebellion against the Umayyad regime to seek revenge for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and his companions. The movement culminated in the Battle of Ayn al-Warda in 685 CE.
Death
The movement of the Tawwabin faced the Umayyad forces in the Battle of Ayn al-Warda. Despite their determination, they were heavily outnumbered and eventually defeated.
