Mugwort (Artemisia spp) is common in the West, and in various places of the world, especially around riparian areas. Though the leaves could be eaten, they are better as a medicine. The fresh leaves can be rubbed on the skin for poison oak protection, and the dried leaves make a great tinder and material for the fire bundle.
Christopher writes about Mugwort in "Guide to Wild Foods and Useful Plants," available at Amazon, or at the Store at www.SchoolofSelf-Reliance.com.

I love this plant. It is very common along the river side area of the Willamette River. I love this plant. It speaks to me. If it is smoked, it has an alarming odor, lol, very skunklike.

My mother would give my sister and I infusions of Estafiate ( Mugwort) whenever we got upset or after we suffered a frightening situation. She would say that it helped with the excessive production of bile.

Found a patch of it growing along the Shenandoah river. I'm gonna have to transplant some.

Beautiful! That's what I do, too. My happiest transplant has been miners lettuce. The seeds spread with the wind.

It is a food item! Asians use it for food such as mugwort omlete, mugwort pork soup, etc etc. It is kind of like parsley!
