I love Ali's comments here. Funny, but true! Does anyone remember the CHAMPIONS FOREVER documentary hosted by Reggie Jackson? During the dinner portion, Larry Holmes stated, "I could beat Ali, Marciano, and Joe Louis", then Larry continued, "the only one that would have given me problems was Jack Johnson". A bold statement by the Easton Assassin, but a tremendous compliment to Jack. During the same dinner segment Ali claimed that he could have beaten Jack Johnson. Wow, Ali vs. Johnson would be the best heavyweight fight of all-time.

Your quotes are OK but Holmes' claims are NOT true. He would not beat Ali and Joe Louis, and it is questionable whether he could beat Marciano. (Personally, I believe Johnson would beat Holmes too.) Who knows about Ali's claim that he would beat Johnson ??? Finally, I do not believe an Ali-Johnson fight would be the best hevayweight fight of all-time. Regarding Johnson, he is lucky he met Jim Jeffries when he did. In his prime, I think Jeffries would have walked through Johnson. In fact, who wouldn't Jeffries have "walked through" ?
@jasona92 жыл бұрын
@@tracycallis156 I see. I thought you were disagreeing with Ali's comments on Jack Johnson. THAT was the main reason for my comment. I just threw in the information on the CHAMPIONS FOREVER documentary because Larry Holmes also gave Jack Johnson a compliment. You wrote, "I do not believe an Ali-Johnson fight would be the best hevayweight fight of all-time." I beg to differ, that would have been an EPIC fight. Johnson was a defensive wizard that would have neutralized Ali's jab (his best weapon). Jack had FAST hands and could have easily outpointed Ali. Regarding Jim Jeffries, did you know that Jeffries himself said that in his prime he did not feel he could have beat Jack Johnson? Look it up.

Muhammad Ali had no inside game or body attack... Jack Johnson was a master of infighting -- short hooks and uppercuts to body and head on the inside -- while both fighters were knocking heads. The referees would let them fight. Ali would grab and hold on the inside (not legal under Queensberry rules). Angelo Dundee picked referees would shout "Stop punching!! BREAK!! LET GO!! Step back gentlemen, STEP BACK!!" and push the fighters 6 ft apart -- about 100 times in a fight. Johnson was the strongest heavyweight of his day and all the referees were dead against him. But JJ was so masterful he mesmerized them and fought to age 53. Ali quit at 39, severely brain damaged from a leaky defense.

the security for a jack Johnston fight when he was fighting a white boxer was crazier than security now in the 21 century.armed guards with sniper rifles everyone that entered the stadium was checked for weapons and it was a slow process just making it safe for Johnston to not get shot or cause a riot wich almost happened of multiple occasions.when he was beating up a white guy in the ring the crowd would be taughnting Johnston with race hating words and Johnston would just smile will destroying the white fighters they put in front of him.if his opponent was really rasicts and taughti g jack he would carry on the beating for as many rounds as he could to enrage the crowd almost into a full blown riot.johston was not a civil rights activist.this hurt his reputation because he just wanted to be respected as a man and after many of his fights alot of black hating racists lynched back people right after his victories against white boxers.alot of black people where afraid that he was being to bold dressing up in fancy clothes having white woman as his companions and gambling and doing things only the white elites had the privlage of doing so they tried making an example out of him everywhere he went and was forces out of the United stated to make a living.he had some of the best quotes from the times that he lived.after he lost the title the next black heavyweight who got a title shot was joe Luis about 30 years later.this how much contemt white America had for jack Johnston.i think he is the greatest heavyweight champ because of the massive amount of pressure and weight this guy had to carry to achieve the impossible in the early 1900's.
