The Beatles didn't even want to meet Ali. They wanted to meet the defending champ Sonny Liston, but he refused so they settled for a photo op with his challenger. John Lennon thought Ali was a big mouth and would lose the upcoming title fight. Little did they know they were meeting the future champion!

the beatles were supposed to meet liston and not ali but liston was too busy or turned them down. they wanted to associate with the champ and not the new and unknown ali. apparently ali ended up saying "you guys aren't as dumb as you look" to which lennon replied "no, but you are!" what a great boxer and great man he was - a true one-off legend! we will never see the likes again! r.i.p. @theirishbloke Yeah, that's what I read, too. Lennon was also annoyed with Ali. He thought Liston would whup him and then they'd look like fools. Two things are important to note: Ali & Lennon later became friends and allies in their anti-war struggles, and The Beatles weren't exactly softies. All 4 came from tough working class backgrounds.

Frightening to think that we never saw Ali at his best. The closest to Ali at his peak was the Cleveland Williams bout in 1966. A lot of people think that THAT Ali would have beaten every other heavyweight in history. Against Williams he was fast, powerful, sharpe, entering his absolute prime. Angelo Dundee reckons Ali's peak would have been somewhere between '66 and '70, had he not been banned from fighting. Incredible that he's arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time, yet he never got to

even the beatles went to visit Ali. he brought life to boxing and make it into a show and not just boxing. his mind psychology also make him confident over his opponent, rattling them. he pre-emp attack on his rivals and also sometime, in the fight, he make it looks easy and in loose condition and not so uptight or tense. nowadays, the fighters are all about power and knockouts. there's no dancing, there's no praying. just boom, and that's it. :p

Here’s an excerpt from Muhammad Ali: Through the Eyes of the World describing the meeting: Cassius Clay and The Beatles climbed into the ring and, as if they just hadn’t met each other, they went through what seemed like a total choreographed routine. There are wonderful photographs of this, in which he pretends to hit the first Beatle and they all fall down like dominoes and scamper about the ring. Then they go off to their history and he goes off to his. Then, a few minutes later, he called me over and said, “So who were those little faggots?”
@carlgilkes87757 жыл бұрын
Andrew Carlisle well that's a lie It was famously unchoreographed. The beatles didn't even wanna meet him they wanted to meet Sonny. No one cared for any choreography.

Sorry George but you couldn't be more wrong if you tried! Lennon never had a problem with black people.Some of his best musician friends were black. Who told you this or better yet why would you say this? Chuck Berry, Little Richard to name a few they admired fiercely. Lennon treated everyone the same, color never mattered for either of them.

So did basically every other person on the planet except for Clay and his entourage, Liston was just an absolute monster and thought to be pretty much unbeatable, he had only lost one fight in his career and that was 10 years prior to his fight with Clay. Liston had just finished demolishing the heavyweight champion, Floyd Patterson, knocking him out in the first round, twice, in a span of less then one year, obviously Floyd wasn't the champ in their second fight. Clay was a massive underdog.
