Reading some of these comments comparing Patterson and Tyson--what makes you think Tyson wouldn't be intimidated by Ali? You'd have to be stupid not to have even a grudging respect for Ali's talents at his prime in the mid-60's. Ali fought plenty of guys who were big, seemingly invincible in terms of strength and speed, and made them look silly (Liston and Foreman being the two most easily recognizable, but there were others). Tyson was great for his day, but he's not the Greatest.

I remember some bum immitation of ali took tyson the distance in tysons prime, even a larry holmes elderly impression of ali caused tyson troube in tyson's prime. It doesn't take a leap of the imagination to see a prime ali frustrating and handing tyson a long painful night.

Ali was unbeaten in his prime before being out of the ring for years, yet even when clearly past his best still ended up ko'ing an unbeaten great Foreman who regained a title 20 years later, when 46 and fat, having spent many years out of the ring. Ali was best in both the 60s and 70s, in spite of that time out.

By 1966 he did say that (Louis 1st, Ali 2nd) . his main argument was that Ali could not take a punch (he even said that in a documentary) and than Ali came out of exile and Cus changed his mind by 1977. Cus' said that it is hard to see anyone beat Louis ..even Ali. AND he did say that he JUST CAN NOT SEE anyone beat Ali at his best. And his best was before his exile according to Cus atleast.

@gdogg024 hahaha im a tyson fan as well as an ali fan but honestly tyson had trouble with Quick tillis and biggs. He Ko'd biggs in the latter rounds and won on decision wit tillis. no way tyson ko's ali. Cus dmato and tyson bouth admit no perfect strategy vs ali the great its in the books.

@ichirima, Let's be real here, a prime Tyson was way too fast offensively, was relentless and knew how to slip through jabs easily...before you knew it it was lights out...again he was way to fast with his hands, slipping through jabs, and too powerfull for any of these dudes. Maybe your referring to an over the hill and mentally destroyed Tyson which fought Holyfield and Lewis, I prime and hungry Tyson would've put both of em to sleep in the early rounds

And who cares if he was knocked down by Cooper, he stopped him by mauling a viscous cut the next round. Bugner went the distance? Wanna give him a medal? Ali still won. Winning and losing is what matters. Ali fought the best of two generations and beat everyone he faced until he was an old man fighting Holmes. tyson from 87-88 beats every heavyweight except clay and young foreman.Big difference between tyson and patterson,lots of differences,tyson was 10 times stronger and had a 10 times better chin,also came in with better combinatioons when he fought in his best model and trained. DOuglas the night he won,would be ko'd in 6 rounds vs the tyson of 88. Damato already said it was night and day between these two guys tyson and p[atterson.tyson nullified 5 guys with great jabs,holmes would have lost also

totally. floyd fucks this fight all up. ali has him tamed before the punches fly. he hesitates before everything. ali even does a few fakeouts just for fun. tyson(or at least mid to late 80s tyson) would have had none of that crap. everything i see floyd do tyson does much faster and with far more power. tyson would move in bobbing and weaving at ridiculous speed and land a really fast and powerful hook that ali prolly wouldnt even see being as he was so damned arrogant.

Ali also took the left hook that Frazier had, and he took numerous, what would be in 2011, solid knockout punches and he shook it off like nothing. Tyson would be chasing Ali all night, but I think one of those freak Tyson hooks could drop Ali. Ali even admitted he didn't hit that hard, So he would be moving for quite a while

@KP4ST joe frazier is an atg and could destroy moderrn day hw's and may have gone undefeated had he fought in other periods. ali was young when he fought cooper and henry caught him flush, norton was a master at beating boxers and an old norton gave holmes hell, bugner was a defensive fighter. boxers were better for the most part back then. now they are slower,more predictable,they fatigue faster,they fight at a slower pace and they dont vary in syles. who do think in the modern day can beat ali

Tyson in hungry prime was taken the distance by Green, Tillis, Smith and Tucker, then still only 23 was ko'd by Douglas. This is all wishful thinking to say he would k.o Holyfield and Lewis in the early rounds. He lacked character and adaptability when the going got tough.

Ali ,has what none of the.other great fighters Don't have and that's lightning fast hands ,that can cut you up.Ali would be!t.Tyson in the layer rounds,mr.lewis maybe middle rounds,Ali doesn't have a knockout punch ,but with that speed enough of them.up.side your head would feel like one punch.

I'm not saying Ali would lose to Tyson i'm just saying I don't think Ali's jab would be sufficient enoughto completely stop Tyson's offensive. Ali always had trouble with boxers who liked to crowd like George Chavulo and Joe Fraizer. It would be a great fight though.

It's wrong to call him the greatest boxer ever; as it's wrong to call himself the greatest boxer ever. Of course, boxing is just a sport, as is the UFC and Pride now. The only REAL fight you'll ever see; is a bare knuckle fight. And most of them are in Ireland, and they can't fight for shit....

@ichirima Ali would have beaten Tyson but not for the reasons you state. Tyson was NOT a limited fighter - Frazier was & yet he gave Ali problems. It was cause Frazier was real tough = it comes down to the individual. Ali could not easily handle Frazier & it is doubtful he could have easily beat Tyson. It is the individual, what they bring to the table overall. Ali was knocked down by far lesser puncher than Tyson. Ali WOULD HAVE beaten Tyson cause Ali defied the odds many time,Tyson never did.

Exactly and Tyson lost to Buster Douglas...who was in fact a 10% version of Ali (his height and long reach)...but Douglas didnt have Ali's speed, fighting heart, intellect, and chin and he still beat Tyson thoroughly...Ali would have picked Tyson apart. Foreman was Taller and bigger and hit harder than Tyson and an aging Ali beat him without dancing around after 8 long rounds...
