If anyone has talked with Ali about the "knockout punch" they would know the Ali will tell you that "knocking a man out is not his objective, that boxing is brutal enough as a sport such that injuring someone is not necessary. Ali, will also tell you the truth which is that if he chooses to really beat a man physically " he can, but to what end"?

Best heavyweight boxer is what you meant to say. They're are boxers in other weight classes with as much or more superior boxing skill in smaller weight classes. Floyd Mayweather was facing more champions at an older age than Ali and beating them in a much more dominant fashion.

This is Ali' first fight against a southpaw and he is learning that they are hard to hit with a jab from the conventional stance. He would learn quickly to throw the right hand lead as soon as Mildenberger over committed. He is also moving in both directions. Needless to say that this is Ali at his very best as fast as a middleweight with very sharp effective punches. Insane cardio as well he moving like this the whole fight. Incredible speed and agility. This version of Ali would have had less trouble in my opinion with Ken Norton who would have paid more of a price when he went to Ali body.

Midenburger was a CLOWN, Little overrated cruiserweight. Mike Tyson who fought spinks, on that night,1988, would have KILLED this 204 pound ali, KILLED HIM, Frazier beat him in 71. ALi was still only 29 ,well in his prime, even after 3 yr layoff, Had two tough warm up fights, was ready on form. Frazier style too much, Mike Tyson would run thru this smaller ali, Norton beat ali 3 times. He lost fight 2 and 3. Mike TYson as a 21 and 22 year old was a combination of frazier and norton, even better level. Only before he married givens and fired rooney though,

This is one of the greatest fights waged by the Champ., his opponent pressed the fight, never backed down, had extremely sound mechanics and form, compared to most fighters of the day, never lost his cool, never lost heart, represented a legit threat to the champ, who just happened to appreciate the clinic and value of this opponent. The ref was truly on his toes and on his job, protecting the principles of the sport., a more timely stopage would be truly rare indeed.

Each time I viewed this fight I find myself cheering for "Mildenberger" as if the fight was current. Karl was a favorite with many Americans that followed his career. A gentleman in many ways, he was never disrespectful to an opponent in victory or defeat. His countrymen supported him, you can hear them in this fight going wild whenever Karl landed a hard punch. I wish there were more of Mildenberger's fights posted on KZbin. In this fight, Karl made a gallant effort only to fall short inbound 12. I always thought that this was one of Mildenberger best fights in his career. He was fighting one of the "best-ever" Heavyweight Champions that was in his prime. May his gallant, brave warrior Rest In Peace.

Do agree but sadly his incredible ability to take a punch outwardly, is what led to his later illness with Parkinson's. 4:11 those quick taps are the sounds of footsteps of a guy moving around fluidly who's over 220 pounds. Assuming that he always had most of the durability and stamina that he showcased throughout the 70's, Ali was basically invincible in his prime. I don't believe any heavyweight we have ever seen could have beat him. Mike Tyson, Tyson fury, Joe Louis, none of them would have been able to do it against a prepared, prime Muhammad Ali. He's the king of heavyweights and arguably the greatest boxer there has ever been. I can't imagine there ever being a greater heavyweight than Ali. What a beautiful man.

Ali was denied the right to fight by all of the boxing commissions (not the government) shortly after his refusal to be inducted. But in Sept 1970, Ali’s right to fight was restored by the US District Court in NY, stating that the boxing commissions had licensed numerous felons and miscreants throughout the sport’s disreputable history and therefore couldn’t bar Ali from fighting just because he said he was a conscientious objector. So he was permitted to fight during Nixon’s term.

Ali landed a perfect check-left hook at the 26:00 mark to score a knockdown. He was a never one-punch knock out artist but his boxing IQ, speed and timing is what made the butterfly sting.

Recebeu muitos golpes e conseguiu reverter a luta.

Cosell must have been in love with the sound of his voice. To hear him tell it, this was a close fight. It wasn't. Ali slipped about 75% of Mildenberger's punches, but Cosell got excited whenever Mildenberger landed a single blow. The reporter Cosell was talking to called the fight correctly. Ali pitched a shutout. Cosell must have been watching a different fight.

Hee. Ali beat the best during the best ever decades of boxing! The visuals you have of Tyson is him fighting a 'bum of the month'; then he gets whooped by the bum of the year! Back in the day those same fighters would have been used as ring fodder for those who were "climbing the ladder". Let's simply name Tyson as the King of the Fodder era.
