If anyone has talked with Ali about the "knockout punch" they would know the Ali will tell you that "knocking a man out is not his objective, that boxing is brutal enough as a sport such that injuring someone is not necessary. This is Ali' first fight against a southpaw and he is learning that they are hard to hit with a jab from the conventional stance. He would learn quickly to throw the right hand lead as soon as Mildenberger over committed. He is also moving in both directions. Needless to say that this is Ali at his very best as fast as a middleweight with very sharp effective punches. Insane cardio as well he moving like this the whole fight. Incredible speed and agility. This version of Ali would have had less trouble in my opinion with Ken Norton who would have paid more of a price when he went to Ali body.

Each time I viewed this fight I find myself cheering for "Mildenberger" as if the fight was current. Karl was a favorite with many Americans that followed his career. A gentleman in many ways, he was never disrespectful to an opponent in victory or defeat. His countrymen supported him, you can hear them in this fight going wild whenever Karl landed a hard punch. I wish there were more of Mildenberger's fights posted on KZbin. In this fight, Karl made a gallant effort only to fall short inbound 12. I always thought that this was one of Mildenberger best fights in his career. He was fighting one of the "best-ever" Heavyweight Champions that was in his prime. Assuming that he always had most of the durability and stamina that he showcased throughout the 70's, Ali was basically invincible in his prime. I don't believe any heavyweight we have ever seen could have beat him. Mike Tyson, Tyson fury, Joe Louis, none of them would have been able to do it against a prepared, prime Muhammad Ali. Ali was denied the right to fight by all of the boxing commissions (not the government) shortly after his refusal to be inducted. But in Sept 1970, Ali’s right to fight was restored by the US District Court in NY, stating that the boxing commissions had licensed numerous felons and miscreants throughout the sport’s disreputable history and therefore couldn’t bar Ali from fighting just because he said he was a conscientious objector. So he was permitted to fight during Nixon’s term.

for me, a dream fight would be Ali vs Tyson. i think Ali would win that one, but Iron Mike's pretty motivated. 😅

Hee. Ali beat the best during the best ever decades of boxing! The visuals you have of Tyson is him fighting a 'bum of the month'; then he gets whooped by the bum of the year! Back in the day those same fighters would have been used as ring fodder for those who were "climbing the ladder". Let's simply name Tyson as the King of the Fodder era.

@onewayup5 👏 Beautiful comment, jacked on steroids too 💉💪🏽😠 and when he did come up against someone half decent like Hollyfield he turned into a little bitc* 🥊😫 🤪 🦻🩸

The announcers and the audience are so clearly against the champ it's not even funny. Mildenberger was so outclassed.

Ali always moving, great. But 2 or 3 „matrix-moves“ by Karl too, so interesting to watch

If Ali hadn't been stupidly suspended for three years for something that had nothing to do with boxing, he would have reached even greater heights.

Ali was extremely corrupt. A fraud. He got karma, though, getting humiliated in his last few fights
