The last 30 seconds of this fight epitomises what Ali was all about, he knew he just had to finish to win. Yet after absorbing all Shavers bombs, being way past his best and not in the best of shape he still went for the KO when the opportunity arose. He is the Greatest of all times!

I believed American media had simply over popularized Ali. It was clear Shaver outscores Ali throwing punches at Ali's face especially his mouth despite his reach advantage Ali uses his hands outstretched to prevent Shaver coming to him and Shaver had successfully cut Ali's reach advantage. This was the fight that damaged him. Prior to the fight, he was himself. The punishment he took all fight was brutal, but some of those shot toward the end of the fight would have stopped a train. By the end of the fight, he wasn't the same and the effect was completely evident.
