This was the fight that damaged him. Prior to the fight, he was himself. The punishment he took all fight was brutal, but some of those shot toward the end of the fight would have stopped a train. By the end of the fight, he wasn't the same and the effect was completely evident.

The Prime 1960s Fastest Moving Ali would have destroyed the 1977 Young and Shavers much quicker and much more swifter. Unfair because the biggest punchers who faced Ali when Ali was years past his Prime Peak in my humble opinion was before he was banned from Boxing because he refused the Draft. No one not even Dempsey, Tunney, Louis , Marciano, Foreman, Holmes, Holyfield and Lewis in their prime could have defeated that Ali.

Multiple times Ali got tagged and his legs sagged, he spent a lot of the fight trying to get his legs back.

Ali, should have retired after the Foreman fight in October of 1974. As you can see here, he was out of shape!

Both are gone now, but they’re probably drinking coffee together in the good place. Shavers said many years later that his biggest problem was that he was never taught to jab. If he had, it would have rivaled Liston’s.

Larry Holmes believes Ali got his Parkinson's from this fight, he said his speech was never the same after that. He spent much time around Ali then.
