As a Christian, we are told never to curse anyone, even our enemies. Instead, we were tokd to pray for them, that they might come to their senses and that God will judge and exact justice in our behalf. RE: Hair extensions - there are certain religious ideologies that hold that *any* type of body modification (i.e. tattoos, cutting the hair, piercings), except for medical reasons, is strictly prohibited because it shows that you don't appreciate the way God made you. Sikhism comes to mind. It applies to men and women. Is Muhammad's "curse" of hair extensions based on a similar principle? I honestly doubt it.

@@Neonvarun Yes it does! If Muhammad's "curse" in this instance can actually be traced back to a principle like that, then it isn't a valid criticism of him/Islam. That was the first thing I thought of when I heard the hair extension story, so I just wanted to clear that up.

circumcision is approved in Islam, but this was taken over from the pharao cult and is somehow a ritual for initiation and a covenant with god. When it comes to tattos: some desert tribes used to tattoo their woman's face as protection against magic, you can still see this today; from an islamic point of view it would make sense if this is seen as superstition; And why are man with tattos not cursed? Maybe simple because that wasn't an issue at the time. Maybe we should look for some tafsir on that, but I guess the underlying theme is not to change your appearance because it would be disrespectful of allah.

The scary thing is that, in the 21st Century, anyone, anywhere (and that goes for the Un-Holy Bible too!) would take this stuff seriously, let alone literally! But, you have, otherwise sensible, reasonable and rational people defending it to the hilt; see Mehdi Hasan defending the Winged Horse, with a straight face, for details. This happens largely, IMO, because *any* criticism of Islam is, in some quarters, unacceptable and the fear of the consequences of doing so overrides and outweighs everything else.
