We do not have to go through any rituals to become Shia, any one who recites this, listen to this, and can not hold the tears is a Shia. Respect & love for the Prophets family should not be a divisive issue. How one can ignore this tragedy of all the tragedies; 1400 years have not been enough to erase this from our memory. The only question I will never find the answer, 'why there were only 72 people with Imam Husain(only a few were soldiers) ?' What rest of the Muslim community was doing at that time ?

My mother left 6 decades ago, I was a child, I remember very well each day of Moharram she will read & tell us the history of that day. We used to cry. Even though I have drifted away from the religion, but my devotion for my Imams will always be there. I strongly believe Sayedna Ali was cheated of his Right. Had I been during those times, I would have been killed right under their flags. Period.

+Abdul Qudus You have raised a very good question which is actually the basis of shiaism.. being shia doesnt mean that it is a different religion altogether, the word shia means followers/adherers/lovers so we actually love the Ahle Bait a.s. of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and you do not have to perform any specific ritual to be a shia infact you just have to have that love in your heart. Imam Hussain left Medina with just his household and few friends to see who is going to support him just for his righteousness and who will kill him so the black sheep would be easily identified otherwise his plan was to perform Hajj but he saw that people were already there in Kaaba to kill him in disguise and nobody would ever know that who are those people who call themselves muslims but they killed Ali. a.s. in a mosque (nobody ever knew the killer's background) then killed his brother Hasan a.s. (nobody ever knew the killer) and similarly his death would be a mystery too so he went towards a desert away from the population called Karbala to show everything in black and white with no grey areas. So everyone now knows who was saving islam and who was fighting for kingdom and who were hypocrites.. the reason why shia remember this day every year is not just as a death anniversary but as a battle between right and wrong coz apparently they were all muslims who killed Imam Hussain but the point is that you cannot be a muslim just by offering prayers, you have to support right and condemn wrong..
