- FORCE is a directional sign so I should have made the motion go towards myself. Not forward.
- PRETEND, honestly... not sure where I learned that version of the sign. But it isn't accurate. There are different versions of the sign PRETEND, but that one is not right.

jokermom I get some comments that are fueled with anger. I understand the feeling though. I am a minority and I understand feeling angry, misrepresented, marginalized, and ignored. I get why they are mad after seeing my videos. But I also feel like I have done a lot to insure that I am not hurting the community and working hard to be inclusive and understanding. So yes, I do get a few angry comments like Libbey, but I don’t think they effect me the same way they effect her. I don’t get them as frequently or as intensely as she does.

I'm planning to sing this ASL interpreted song which is my favorite Disney song from Mulan for ASL Karaoke in August 2022. 💞 I know that the sound quality is a little different, but I'll get used to it somehow. Everyone is counting on me to perform next month on behalf of the time change that's occurring re: Zoom, of course. I’m glad you are enjoying signing songs but you really should not label this ASL. Yes you’re using ASL BUT it doesn’t connect very well with the song. It’s very English based. I believe in your Ariana grande video it was pointed out that you’re transliterating. Some of your sign choices were incorrect and some of the signs were sign incorrect. Example: “im forced to hide” You signed “force you to hide” Force is a directional sign. If someone is forcing you then the sign is directed towards you. When you used it it looked like you signed all night. “Everyday it’s as if I play a part” Your sign for pretend, looks almost similar to the sign for Starbucks. There is no sign for pretend you would have to think about what to actually sign. This is why finding meaning behind the lyrics becomes important. Another thing to keep in mind is you can’t switch between your dominant and non dominant hand. If you’re right hand keep to using that hand, same goes for if you are left handed. By switching hands back and forth it becomes confusing. “I won’t pretend that I’m, someone else for all time” You signed “always I act different person”. You forgot the negation. She saying she won’t now, add a negation like REFUSE. Now before anyone starts coming after me, I’m just being honest. People out videos up for critiques and suggestions. You can say this is ASL because it’s “grammatically correct” but it’s really not. It’s very English signing. Everyone has their own way to interpret music, you and Libbey tend to go more towards the English signing. To make this actual ASL you really need to find the meanings behind the lyrics, expansion techniques, better sign choices. I’m not saying your signing is bad this was good for being signed in English and I can tell you are putting emotion into. For the notes that she holds add dramatic to it, show that she is holding that note, that word. Example: “Insiiiiddeee” make the sign last longer to show that.

FutureASLInterpreter 1206 thanks for the critiques! I always appreciate your comments. You do go into detail and it helps me learn. I will continue to label the titles ASL but I will also keep putting a disclaimer at the beginning of the video explaining that this is not going to be 100% accurate and that I am looking for comments like this to help me and people watching learn. I will defend one thing though. I didn’t forget the negation. It’s at the end of that phrase. I sign “WONT” last in the next line. Doesn’t line up with the lyrics, as it shouldn’t. I could have shook my head though to make the negation consistent through the sentence though. Noted! Thank you! I will put these in the description when I get home 📝

At the end you should also put that in captions, as not everyone watching your video may be able to hear what you say. You have put captions for both the song and the ASL words. But at the end you speak and there is no captions. I really enjoyed being able to see how you changed the song from English into ASL (particularly since I do not use ASL).
