@@bilbobaggins4403 yeah but Gary was louder....trust me! Funny how some guitarists have 'walls of amps' on stage (think Yngwie J. Malmsteen [who stated, "There are only two things on Earth seen from space, 'The Great Wall of China' and my amps."]) and then there are others with far less. ***The tone and 'notes' are what really does the 'damage' to peoples hearing. Jeff Healey personally 'damaged' my hearing permanently in one ear, mind you that was the 2nd (in a back-to-back concert), at the front of the stage in a bar! I saw SRV only three times, Gary only eleven times, and Jeff 27 or 28 times. Gary could and did play every style of music (except Opera) and his 'guest appearances' are extremely vast stylistically too! The fact he played only standard right handed guitars and he was left handed is rather remarkable. ***Extremely SAD that Gary, Stevie, and Jeff have all passed away....Thank GOD their music was left for us to still hear and videos to watch over and over again!!! Take Care! PEACE!!!

GaryMoore is one of the best of the best of the best. I’m sure glad my statement about Gary received so many comments. We all have to face it every guitar player at Gary’s level of playing is Great. There is an Gary’s album cover where he is a young boy playing the guitar listening to Hendrix and on the other side Gary becomes a guitar player like Hendrix or something like that. I saw all of them live and I played guitar and bass for many years in many bands so this is coming from an old timer who saw Hendrix, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, and all the rest of the big name guitarist live on stage.

Gary Moore stands above every guitarist I've ever seen, and for many reasons. One, he easily intertwined blues, jazz, classical, and rock into his solos, making songs his and his alone, because no one could copy them. Here is perhaps the greatest solo piece anyone has ever done, and what makes it is exactly what I mentioned above: the intertwining of many other types of music into this wonderful song. It will be a long time before we see another guitarist with the passion, talent, innovation, discipline, and the ability to make every song his own. “The Messiah Will Come Again” Gary Moore (10:00) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZyTaJ1tgch_p9k BB King was no slouch with a guitar. In fact, many rate him right at the top. Humble man that BB was, watch him bow to GM, and rightly so. That speaks it all in regard to GM's talent. “The Thrill is Gone” with B.B. He didn't even make the top 100 guitarists on the Rolling Stone list. Which is very political anyway. But what a shame. Not necessarily for GM, because he's gone, but for music fans who might get to listen to his work if he were better known. It's rather irritating to many of us.

Chris we know oodles of guitar lovers, and the only conclusion we can come to as to why he's not recognized and people like Lennon are, is politics. Rolling Stone has Hendricks as number one. Joe Walsh and Eric Clapton heard about him back in the `60s and went to see him in CA. They concluded and haven't changed their minds that "he's about average." So, there it is. Don't know any other answer. But it is a shame and disgrace. Can't these political bastards keep their politics out of anything and everything? No, they've proven they cannot!

Gary was my hero, one of my reasons for playing guitar and my reason for playing a Les Paul. I have been a fan since the 70s. He’s the musician that I think I saw live more than any other - every time he came to London. The player who gave him the encouragement to follow through on his crazy idea of recording a blues album was Jeff Healey. Gary thought no one would be interested in his blues album, but listening to JH gave him the push to carry on and go for it.😊 Joe has been a favourite of mine for many years. He’s a tremendous musician and when I met him I thought he was a terrific guy too. ✌️

@slsw15603 жыл бұрын
The biggest singular 'reason' Gary never joined OZZY was he had just quit THIN LIZZY (while still on an American Tour), due to drug addicted band members and lack of 'professionalism', that Gary disagreed with. So Gary did not want to leave the antics of THIN LIZZY's heroin abuse for OZZY's alcoholism and various drugs use. ***Gary and his band 'auditioned' the musicians trying to join OZZY and his 'new band' (as Gary was living in LA at the time and was ironically on the same CBS 'label' association as OZZY with 'Jet Records'), and Randy asked Gary if he thought it was a good thing for him to join OZZY....Gary said yes and from there the rest is history! Gary and OZZY remained good friends and as I am sure you are aware, OZZY finally got his wish to record with Gary, on Gary's 'After The War' record. Take Care! PEACE!!!

Gary, like Jeff Beck, and a select few others, was a Guitarist's Guitarist. His tone, touch, dexterity, and most importantly feel and soul were a thing to behold. Joe does Gary a disservice here by saying Gary only had one setting/speed...which is nonsense. What made him SO great, and perhaps unique, was his ability to switch from Peter Green esque beautiful melodic moments, to absolutely ferocious speedy outbursts, all within the space of a couple of bars. Normally, (Hello Yngwie!), guitarists with great technique tend to want to show it off ALL the time. Gary was nothing like this. It's also commented on that half an hour solo's are hard to listen to. True in 99.9% of cases...but in Gary's...not so! When he solo'd time seemed to stand still, and he would NEVER get boring. He was THE man!

FOLKS - it is 90% the guitarist, 10% the guitar that makes the sound. As a guy who has played for over 40 years and owned all the great guitars at one time or another, I can tell you that its the guitarist's ability that makes most of the difference. Great guitars add a little bit more, maybe sustain or particular tonal balance, but mostly its what happened between fingers, pick and strings that counts. Rory had a unique style that would have been his on any guitar.

Gary Moore soloed with more intensity, emotion than anyone at the time. Then srv got big because he to played with such an intense passion he drew you in to the moment. If you have watched as many srv concert videos as often as I have you'll notice when Stevie realizes he's repeating himself the emotion in his face leaves and he then starts looking at the band to either end or let's go to a verse.if you saw Gary Moore at the fender 50th anniversary show and saw Gary at the end of the show play red house by Hendrix he played with such intensity, emotion for so long and it never got boring. The way he worked the volume on that red strat changing the tone by his picking technique was masterful.joe b. doesn't play the same style as Gary. Joe Bonomassa style is more technical influenced like Eric Johnson in his phrasing and scale positions that he uses. Nonetheless Joe bonomassa is an exciting player, intense just different than Gary and srv .Joe bonomassa is the future of blues rock in the world right now. The way he sold out all those venues in Europe in that short of time says something about his mass appeal .God bless Europe for supporting him America has its musical head so far up its back side I don't believe a record company would even sign a blues artist. Joe Bonomassa has made his own way in this muck of a music business. Check out the BCC live over Europe that Joe and Glenn did.fantastic. trying to keep classic rock alive as well. Keep it up Joe! For me its gibbons, albert king, muddy waters. I dont think technical skill equates to greatness if its not used to make something interesting.

I’m 61 years old. At 16 I bought a Marshall and a Les Paul. Heard “Waitin for the Bus” ZZ... I’ve worked hard to find every tone. When SRV hit the scene, I bought a Strat and worked even harder to find every tone. Years of studying SRV and Gary Moore I’ve come too this conclusion. Stevie Ray is the greatest power blues player on a Stratocaster and Gary Moore is the greatest power blues player on a Les Paul.

Since GM died, in the comments there has been a debate about who's the best. Forget the best for a second. How about the music industry just giving Gary Moore his due? Not necessarily for his sake, because he's in a much better place and I believe could not care any less about earthly fame. But for music fans who never heard of him because of some odd black out of mentioning this ungodly talented man's playing abilities. For a great guitarist there must be a criteria. I'll start one here: How about someone who could intertwine numerous other types of music into a song, which would ever so slightly change the song for the better, practically making it a new song? How about someone who could play Rock & Roll, Blues, Classical, and just about anything else-and play one as passionately as the other? How about someone who could play the great BB King into bowing to him in a solo and later telling the audience that he'd never seen or heard anything like Gary Moore? That will do for starters. You can see that last one occur here: “The Thrill is Gone” with B.B. King 10:00 kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4bElqmkhZZ_gsk Some of you might want to add someone would could turn a guitar upside down and play it as well that way as normally. But I'm going to leave that one out of my criteria. It seems to impress at lot of people, though.

Interesting to see & hear a Joe Bonamassa interview, he seems like such a normal & humble guy . Once he puts his suit & sunglasses on then straps on his guitar he turns into a God!

Gary Moore was one of the best, from Skid Row, Thin Lizzy, his solo stuff al;l great writing nand playing Joe knows his stuff and he talks very kindly of Gary, I met Gary in Hartford Ct, back in the day on tour with Def Leppard. he was a true gentleman no big head like many others..... RIP Gary....

Gary’s stinging tone, eternal sustain, beautiful vibrato, and melodic runs are unmatched. Rory is another of my favorites, his live performances are killer. I’m sorry, I’m just not one of those guys that think Bonamassa is that special or deserves the accolades he gets. Change my mind.

Your comment is right on the money, I feel exactly the same way. Joe’s ok, Clapton is ok, but Gary and Rory are the best in my life time.

John dawson winter the 3rd. Also rocked the blues with equal intensity. And long blues based solos when gary was rockin in thin lizzy. Honourable mention due !!! Lets not forget. Still love listening to gary. I remember when he covered Shape of. Things. Check out live in detroit Not positive of year 95 perhaps. He carried the torch all thru those years as did johnny. Miss them both. Both influential in a big way.

Jimi, SRV, Rory Gallagher, Jeff Healey, Gary Moore, Les Paul, Peter Green, Prince,....the list of amazing talent jamming in heaven is mind blowing. All of them are unique (including so many more not mentioned), and are sorely missed. Thankfully, there are deep catalogues of all the amazing artists....and KZbin.

why do so many people say he's not as good as blah blah......its just your opinion it doesn't make you right......Joe might not be the best singer but he has great guitar chops...and he's keeping the blues alive....plus he's unpretentious, always pays credit where due and lots of great players(guitarists) enjoy sharing the stage with him so enjoy instead of knocking.....

I couldn't agree more. So many great guitarists have played with Joe, which wouldn't happen if he wasn't great as well...Clapton, B.B. King, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Billy Gibbons, Martin Barre, Los Lobos, Stephen Stills, Buddy Guy, Steve Windwood. He also has performed with renowned drummers, bassists, keyboardists, and vocalists. I love the way he puts a couple of bars of famous riffs by other guitarists (Steve Howe, Jimmy Page, Peter Frampton) into his solos as tributes.
