For years I've been hearing people say "they're not gonna be restoring Honda Civics in 20 years".... glad to see they were wrong. These cars are important pieces of automotive history and the fact there are people going to these lengths to bring them back makes me happy as hell.

Best way to get rid of body deadening material is to use dry ice. Put it on the area for about 15 minutes, remove the dry ice then give it a tap with a hammer. The material will break away in pieces. Nice n easy!.
@juanmaldonado7204 Жыл бұрын
It not sound deadening material. It’s more of a seam sealer. No way in hell will that come off with ice. This or sandblasting is the only way.

Man,I subbed right away. I have a red 92 Si hatch with a very tired 462 thousand km engine that’s been sitting for 3 years now. It was only running on 3 cylinders for the last 6 thousand kms I drove it because the compression is so low in one pot that I just parked it and bought a 14 Civic coupe to replace it. I ran the piss out of that little hatch here in British Columbia in temps down to -42 with no block heater or anything and it only let me down once when the original fuel pump went out at 450 thousand kms. I would love to do what you’re doing for the rust because it was such a great car,I can’t get rid of it. 🚗

is it not better to sand/grit blast the rusted areas, i recently used "hammerite" rust converter and it actually made the rust much worse, is the hydrate-80 stuff the same style of converter/preventer?
@mullac72010 ай бұрын
It was all sanded. I just used hydrate so it would soak into any of the seams just in case. It wouldn't do much if it was put straight onto untouched rust. You want to seal the convertor also like epoxy primer etc.

Perhaps worth mentioning the roof seam-sealer had cracked & allowed water in on my '95. Also rust at rear of roof ahead of hinges due to condensation from inside & inadequate paint dip when built, same as my '88 Integra. Glad there was so little rust upon mine but certainly could have used L-Rear arch repair panel to rectify excessive filler & poor repairs if they'd been more affordable here. Did Honda still leave off the bumper reinforcement beams to cut weight there, as my ED Civic & JDM '95 Prelude did?

Undersealant and sound deadening is much easier to remove with dry ice. It just flakes off after it gets cold enough :) With the car on the spit, you could just pile the stuff on it and let it sit for an hour; might save you some elbow pain from holding the heat gun and scraping :D
