If that has the new Muller Energy JBD BMS they have made the BMS able to change the parameters so that Active Balancer can be switched on/off at certain voltages. As you really don't want your active balancer to come on below a cell voltage of 3.40V
@philsrandomstuff2392
@philsrandomstuff2392 Жыл бұрын
I just read out what was printed on the active balancer which states " working voltage 2.7v to 4.5v "
@bildad1234
@bildad1234 Жыл бұрын
@@philsrandomstuff2392 I just watched again, the active balacer is not controlled by bms so it is permanently on. Oddly enough leaving active balancer on all the time actually unbalances the pack with deep discharging. If you look where the balance leads attach to the port on the Heltec there is a bridged solder connection beside the port. You could attach a switch there and manually turn the active balancer on/off or you could wire in a variable voltage sensing relay and set the voltage to 13.6v which would be 3.4v per cell, the perfect time to start balancing. Muller Energy are very high quality builds. Do you have any control over the BMS settings via the App?

@philsrandomstuff2392 Жыл бұрын
@@bildad1234 have not had a chance to download the app so I cannot comment on its operation yet. You are correct, leaving the active balancer on all the time cause an imbalance overtime, this battery is going to be used where it will be connected to solar and a DC to DC charger all the time so it should not cause a problem. Doing what you suggest with a voltage sensitive switch or just a switch is definitely the best way to go with active balances.

Phil, how's your back going?

Hay thanks for checking in on me, I really appreciate it. Back is holding up well . It been nearly a year now but the nerve pain in both legs, mainly the right leg is still there, but is bearable and doesn’t hinder me too much in my day-to-day things, but is very wearing on me with the constant pain in the background. The hardest part about the whole thing was learning to trust my back again and learning to live by myself after 22 years of marriage. I have been wanting to do a follow-up video but just don’t seem to get the time. If someone were to ask me if the surgery was successful, I would say yes, and I’m very happy with the outcome. When you damage your spinal cord and sciatic nerve it’s gonna take some time to heal. They told me anywhere up to another year before, I will know if the pain in the legs will go away. Once again, thank you very much and appreciate you checking in on me.

Hi I use mine everyday running a fridge and lights and have had no problem with the battery build quality or capacity and can say for me it’s worth it’s money. The only negative is the Bluetooth for the Bms is slow to connect and you need to pay for the advanced version of the app which may or may not be worth it depending on your set up as it gives you more information on the battery and the ability to remotely turn the load off or disconnect it from the charging system and still run a load off it. The app will also let you know how charged the battery is and so on

@@philsrandomstuff2392 Thank you for the reply, Phil. My system is going to be pretty basic with upto 360w of solar to a 100/30 mppt charger for battery, then plug in a power distribution box all while using 8ga wire. I decided on this battery because it seems one of the best slim line batteries for the price and the build quality seemed great Bluetooth wasn't a concern because I think the screen will do.

Hey Phil What do you think about the mounting brackets on the 200ah battery, I don’t think they are strong enough to hold a 28kilo battery when four wheel driving the screws are very small for my liking, another thing I found was when I mount the brackets the other way it does not fit flush when you try to mount it, it leaves about a 5mm gap means I have to find a spacer Once again my friend I look forward to your thoughts, Cheers Darren 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Mine had about 3mm gap under the mounting brackets so I got some 3mm flat bar alloy from Bunnings to take up the gap. If you don’t use countersunk screws. You could slot the holes and move the brackets, so you don’t have the gap. Yes 28 kg is a lot to hold for the tiny screws. My battery has the bottom side sitting on the floor of the canopy, so not a lot of weight supported by the brackets. What you could do is get two pieces of 3 mm angle iron the length of the battery to support it across the entire length of the battery case, which will allow you to put more screws in the mounting plate or board that you are fixing the battery to. This is what a lot of other slimline batteries come.

Hey Phil I’ve also just purchased a Muller battery, I purchased the the 200ah slimline lithium battery, like everyone else here we are looking forward to your review, I haven’t got round to installing mine battery as yet maybe soon, fingers crossed I’ve done the right choice, it’s sounds picky but I did find a down side and that is the battery box itself is unbalance because of the way the lithium batteries are laid out inside, noticeably more so with the 200ah, When the time comes it’s going to take 2 hands to mount it Keep up the good work mate 🍻🍻👍👍👌👌

Yes they are dam heavy, on the the plus side you could reuse the case when the cells run out of life. I have got the 100ah mounted in my Ute canopy, would of got the 200ah like you but it was to thick. So far I get 107ah out of it and the cells are balanced. As for the Bluetooth app it is slow to connect and you need the pay $12 for the advanced part of the app but unfortunately you can not change the active balancer switching points. I think you will be happy with your purchase

@@philsrandomstuff2392thanks for getting back to me Phil, yes I never thought of that reusing the case with new cells, mine fully charged came to 210ah which put a smile on my face, I’m also running a Redarc bcdc 40 amp charger, what solar panels would you recommend to charge this 200ah battery, 200watt,250watt, or300watt solar panel or something bigger ??? I finally received my Renogy inverter in the post today, but one of the mounting brackets was broken now I’m just waiting to hear from Amazon and Renogy support, unfortunately I couldn’t find any Phone Numbers to contact them personally
@philsrandomstuff2392
@philsrandomstuff2392 Жыл бұрын
@@darrenknight9661 shame about the inverter, Renogy have a email you could try supportau@renogy.com. Hopefully they will sort it out for you. With the redarc 40dcbc I think you can run upwards of 600w of solar. The main thing to consider when I purchase solar panels is the Real Estate that I have to fit them, no point buying panels that won’t fit. So sometimes size will dictate a brand or type of solar panel. I have three different types of solar panels myself and out of the 3 the 100w renogy Black Division Lightweight Monocrystalline Solar Panel works the best . So hopefully the rest of there panels in different sizes are just as good . Solar 4 RVs is great company and very helpful www.solar4rvs.com.au/

Hey Phil I appreciate your advise, the solar panels will be used on camping trips take them put out of the car and set up to recharge my Renogy 200ah I suppose you can call them portable, I took a look at the 100 watt black Davidson solar panels it seems to be the panels I like also thanks. Do the black Davidson solar panels come any bigger than 100 watts ??? I guess these panels can be mounted anywhere on the ground or even the bonnet of a car etc

@philsrandomstuff2392 Жыл бұрын
@@darrenknight9661 100w is as big as they go in the black division panels, but have a look at there folding panel range, something like this is better for car based camping as they come with ability to be self standing and take up less space when not in use
