Thanks Dusty, this one is just a bit tossed together but these plants are so happy because it's got some really strong plant grow lights powering it! And a ton of fish and snail waste 😅 the duckweed has been driving me nuts tho lol

Verry nice! I have an ivory with that darker spot in the shell too! I spied a beautiful planted tank! Looks like we both have the duck weeds 😅 I wish I could keep mystery snails in schmutzville but their shells suffer bad because the panda garras won't allow them to get their cats aquatics foods I got them in an effort to supplement their calcium soo I have them in other tanks. Great job on the video!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you! It would be cool to cross in an unrelated two-tone mystery one day! Thank you, that's my big central focus aquarium 💖 a tour of that one is on my list of videos to make, but it's been doing great! I only have about 3-4 pieces of duckweed left in there after over a month of manually removing it and blasting it with the canister filter flow, but it's in just about every other setup I have 😅 I would blame the shell damage on a long lack of WCs as well as those pesky pest snails literally eating the calcium straight off their backs! So rude! I've used wonder shells in the past, but using a calcium rich food would be a fun way to go about it too! I'd love to keep mystery snails in my main aquarium but it wouldn't end well between the tetras and puffer 😅 Even the mystery snail in my guppy mosh pit is suffering! Poor fella, I gotta get it out of there. Thanks for checking it out, and for the kind words 💖

Thank you for the kind words, that's very sweet of you to say. Snails are people too! Jk of course 😂 snails are snails 🐌 I genuinely believe that life is too short and wonderful to not stay curious and keep learning. The processes of life are fascinating to me - sometimes I think I just get too caught up in the day-to-day to fully appreciate certain aspects of it all. A happy reminder to myself to stay curious and look at the world with a sense of wonder ✨

@@AquaticMoose how often do they lay eggs? Do they only breed under a certain conditions and you have to create those conditions? Can you tell which ones are male which ones or female? I had never thought about this, but between my two coupons I probably have created a colony of over 1000 bladder snail… I should really learn more about the things living in my ponds
@AquaticMoose13 күн бұрын
It's hard for me to tell exactly how often they lay eggs, but I've noticed they go through periods where they lay more and then less. I think things like higher temps, regular feeding, and high humidity (having a lid on) have made a noticable difference in the amount of clutches I get. Maybe even competition for resources, as I don't get other eggs laid until I've removed a lot of the snailets. I know there is a way to tell males from females, I think due to some organ that protrudes from their shells on occasion, but I've actually never made an effort to do so! I just started with a group of 3 and got lucky.. since then I've kept at least a small group to maintain my colony. The female snails can also retain "material" from the males for a long time after they've mated, and continue to inoculate herself based on conditions in the environment. This is all based on mystery snails tho! I believe bladder (or pond snails) can clone themselves or reproduce with a mate. This allows them to take over much more rapidly than mystery snails! People that don't want more snails typically wait for mystery snail eggs to harden, and then remove and freeze or crush the egg clutches. Bladder snails can be a lot harder to prevent, tho you can typically see their eggs as clear jelly-like sacs laid underwater on plants. Hope that helps 😃
@The_Koi_Pit13 күн бұрын
Moose! Thank you so much for the well thought out and thorough response. Now that you mention it, I think I remember learning from a friend that bladder snails can clone themselves. These little guys live in every square inch of my pond 😂 they are literally living in my shower filter. I have no idea how the eggs could have made it past the drum filter and the motors impeller. 🤷🏼♂️ Last question: what water temps do mystery snails require? Can they live in cold water or are they more tropical snails?
@CatFish10710 күн бұрын
They can sometimes cause a terrifying sound, when rolling around in a ball, mating, if their shells bang the glass. Ah! Don't shatter, please!

@@CatFish107 😂 I have not heard that sound yet! But I have found them on the floor in a different room before 😂 back before I had a good lid

Those are really beautiful animals! 🐌 I wish I could have some, they look so fun! Sadly, here in europe mystery snails are forbidden, because they are thought to be an invasive species. I think the legislators confused them with apple snails 😮
@AquaticMoose2 күн бұрын
@@huhu24u They are pretty neat and majestic snails! Sorry to hear that. They have certainly caused issues in warmer places that don't get freezing temperatures to help keep them under control. Sadly, sometimes the wrong species are limited regardless. Hopefully there is a similar snail variety you can keep! 🐌 Thanks for checking it out, I hope you'll subscribe and follow along on the journey 🙂
