If you want something small, cheap, and don't care about MIDI functionality, I would suggest checking out the CNZ Audio SMD-10 Modulation Pedal. You can get one for $60, and it's a small mini pedal that has 11 modulation effects, which include Chorus, Trichorus, P. Flanger, N. Flanger, Jet Flanger, Vibrato, Unvibe, Phaser, O. Tremolo, B. Tremolo, and an Auto Filter. And it's easy to use and it sounds pretty good too. I love my Orbital Modulator myself, but I still prefer having the MIDI functionality as well as the parameters I can edit and I don't want to invest in a Strymon Mobius or Boss MD-200... yet.

Interesting, never heard of this one. Thanks for the heads up!

Also that CNZ pedal is prob the identical to Rowin mod station or landlord fx spinning room. Same layout, effects and functionality. The Rowin can be had for less $. CNZ seems to take all those mini pedals that everyone re-brands and charge much more than competitors. I got the Rowin when looking into modulation and so far it gets the job done. I came here considering a replacement because the tiny knobs are a pain to tweak and it makes it difficult to dial in a specific rate for the effects.

Very nice playing! I have a EHX Mod 11 and Boss Md-200. They are pretty similar besides the tap tempo. Source Audio looks like a very nice pedal but takes time to remember where the dials should be for certain modes. Awsome pedal tho for sure.

The Source Audio one is awesome but yeah, a couple of the modes are a pain. I think it sounds better than all of the competition (that I've tried) but unless you save tremolo as a preset like I did, it'd be such a hassle to use for that. I haven't tried the Boss, I tend to like their stuff but I keep forgetting the MD-200 exists.

I have the Mod 11, very handy size, but its not practical live as there are no presets, so constant bending down if you want to change. Less variations and a preset button would have made it a much better pedal live.Thanks for the comparison
@mikec34124 жыл бұрын
Man the orbital does sound good, but watching you dial in settings gives me anxiety, haha.
@LeFeversAudio4 жыл бұрын
Hah! Some of those engines are NOT easy. I'm so confused by their priorities, they made presets for like, six different flangers and 3-4 phasers, but there's no way to get to a classic chorus or vibrato or tremolo without going into the deep editing tools. Why.
@jakollee4 жыл бұрын
Great video. I was hoping to like the EHX Mod 11 better, but I have to admit the Orbital just sounded richer on each setting [sigh]. I may still end up getting the EHX, for its smaller footprint and for the Pitch and Filter settings. (Is the Filter like an auto-wah, envelope filter sound??)
@LeFeversAudio4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I wanted to like it more too. I'm not sure what the Filter setting is all about - I never quite got an auto wah thing happening but yeah it's some kind of envelope filter. Low Pass, High Pass, etc, and then there are (I believe) sub options that allow for more movement / different LFO shapes...

Great review, Can the #Mod11 be used with a standard #9v multi power brick? I see the power rating is 9.6v not 9v
@LeFeversAudio2 жыл бұрын
Oh, interesting. Yeah I used it with a standard power supply. I think EHX does that sometimes, though... the manual will say "9.6v" for some reason but everyone just uses a normal power brick.
@toneranger2 жыл бұрын
@@LeFeversAudio cheers thanks for taking time to respond. EHX just confirmed that a standard 9v will do the job, 👍🏻

The Orbiter sounds nice enough, but looks incredibly complicated to set. When first using the Ehx 11 pedals, including Canyon delay, the mode/secondary button can be complicated, but here, it looks even simpler than the Orbiter. To me, it also sounds just as nice. I'd definitely go with the Mod 11.
@LeFeversAudio4 жыл бұрын
If you've used the Canyon, this would be a breeze. I think the Canyon, the Mod 11, and the Ocean's 11 reverb are meant to be a trilogy and all work the same way as each other.
@DarthEcoli4 жыл бұрын
@@LeFeversAudio I use a Canyon religiously on my pedalboard. Agreed on the trilogy, and why I mentioned it. You're right. Because of my learning curve with the Canyon, the Mod 11 should be much easier. Hivemind and such. lol

@LeFeversAudio4 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Beydler - So far, the Orbital still wins for me on quality of the effects. It can be a huge pain to dial in, though, and the tremolo is very limited. Hanging on to the Orbital for now but I’m thinking of getting at least an analog tremolo back on my board.
@nicholasbeydler12574 жыл бұрын
Matt LeFevers Thanks so much! I’m planning to do basically the same thing...I’m looking for an Orbital Modulator and will keep an analog tremolo on my board.
@LeFeversAudio4 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Beydler - that was the sweet spot for me - partly because the Orbital is so good at everything else except tremolo, and partly because then it let me put the trem much later in the chain than the others and I liked it better there.

How about md-200 from Boss?
@LeFeversAudio3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that one, I don't think it existed when I was looking into this, but it looks pretty amazing to be honest. If I was still trying to do an all-in-one mod thing I'd get it in a heartbeat. (I decided to stop trying to do everything and just get a really great chorus and tremolo...)
@vladimirpavlovic94883 жыл бұрын
@@LeFeversAudio I think it is a great all arounder. I have its older adn bigger brother, md 500. But getting seperate pedals is a legitimate tactic, too. Especially if you really use those two effects. To me, with mods, It is not enough. I do not use them much, but when I do, I like adding different flavors, depending on the song. Usually it is a trem or a phaser, but gosh some octave stuff and leslie and chorus/vibrato are very cool sounding..so multifx is the only solution for me. What exact pedal models do you have your eyes on?

Too much pedalboard real estate and money for me, relative to how much I care about modulation, but Strymon rules and I bet the Mobius is terrific. That's definitely the high end, boss-level version of this.

Chris Nagy - I got each of them for $130ish. Are you seeing a higher price for the Orbital? If anything it's the older pedal of the two. Right now on Reverb I see a couple of Source Audios for $100 but nothing for the Mod 11 under $120.
