An alternative ? What about a amp sim with built in DI and ground switch like the Tzakalis mk4 cap sim, or my old tc electronics boost/linedriver with a xlr-output, or my old Carlmartin 3-band eq/linedriver ? It is nice with something compact. Or is it better with a Canvas-solution ?

Im confused, How is a DI box converting inputs from both a keyboard (line signal) or an instrument signal from a bass (IDK signal) guitar to mic signal?
@Guttalaser4 күн бұрын
I'm on the Canvas Stereo DI/LI... and i can do everything with it... DI or LI in mono (2 mono lines) or stereo or even stereo summed to mono... so it's a no brainer swiss knife and for a really good price!

First I got the OC-5 didn't like the oct up, bought the Sub n Up didn't like the oct down, lastly bought the Micro POG and loved the oct up. So now I'm using the OC-5 for the low oct and the POG for the oct up and a little bit of oct down. The Sub n up I dunno, didn't know what to do with it so I made some crazy toneprint that I can use as an FX in the studio.

Great video explaining the theory and basics while showing examples of what the two are meant for. I was wanting to know more about this just recently. It is interesting there are some samples you showed where I actually like the DI Box over the Isolator and vice versa, depending on what melody played. Since I hear that the DI Box had a tad little bit more low sustaining on notes and I mean literally only a tad little bit, when playing over a period of time I can make out a little warmer tone from the DI. The examples I liked the DI Box over the Isolator was at the two comparisons that start at 11:15 and the two comparisons at 11:40, then again I like warmer tones when in slower moments. However when playing for a faster purpose and using the fast pace to fill in etc, like for the two comparisons at 12:05. I definitely like the brighter Line isolator over the DI Box on that comparison, it would be less obnoxious in my opinion, mixing with other instruments especially side by side with bass and kick. Edit Basically I am trying to say it would be more appealing to mix in with all the other elements in a band.

I have both pedals and i definitely feel like for clean tones, the Pitchfork is alot more useful and for high-gain, the Drop is waaay better... Just my opinion.

At some point, the price to repair surpasses the price to replace... I almost bought the new Blackout Edition they just put out, now im skeptical...

You mean the black edition of the drop...? Don't...! They should not get away with charging nearly double as much as the original would cost for the black unit... It's just ridiculuos...😅

Thanks, I was looking for this particular video. Do you know if the new Boss oc-5 pedal works just as well? Of course, I would buy the "little thunder pickup" that the Smile Emty Soul band uses, but it's too expensive.
@LeFeversAudio28 күн бұрын
The OC-5 works about the same as the OC-3, yes 👍🏻 I’ve got a video about that one on here too somewhere. There’s also another pickup called the Submarine that I did a couple videos on, not sure if that’s any less expensive than the ‘little thunder’ though.

interesting. great experiment. I thought the scarlett had a "cheap sound", like others have said, like listening to an MP3. I really liked the fullness of the Audient. I am curious though, most people will use the WA12 primarily for vocals and might not need so much fullness on the bottom end. Overall though, I would have to say that from this, the WA12 isn't worth the money if you already have a decent interface.
@LeFeversAudioАй бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I personally tend to use the WA12 for most things, I like its sort of mids-forward character, but after this shootout I will cheerfully just use the Audient instead if that's faster or easier for a particular setup. I don't really have a strong preference between those two.

Thanks for your good video, can I use DI box in front of my Fractal AxeFxii ?
@LeFeversAudioАй бұрын
You could - but doesn’t the AxeFX have XLR outs? You might not need one, depending on what kind of signal those are putting out.

@LeFeversAudioАй бұрын
You know, I never tried going up with it. My guess is that it would get the job done but might sound a little metallic or tinny. I bet it wouldn’t be very pleasant clean but with some gain it might be just fine…

This is pretty much my experience with Roland/Boss as well. I am definitely not going to recommend that you buy another pedal and return the broken one in its packaging for a full refund. I would never advise you that this is the only fair and logical thing to do. I would never say that this is basically what our society has degenerated to given that companies seem to loathe their customers nowadays and refuse to staff properly.

As far as I’ve seen with the canvas comparison between LI and DI is that with the DI signal, you lose some high end that you regain in LI mode. It’s not just about volume, but overall tone. The signal is stronger and sounds better because it’s not as “lacking” as the other. It’s not just because it’s louder. And when you have a chain of effects in series, you lose in both directions. So it’s always best to have as full a signal as possible from your rig to FOH

It happens in 38 years I've had some pedals flake out and some I bought in 1987 that are working fine today, it's hit and miss with all electronics. The DigiTech Drop is an awesome pedal I love it! Look at it in a positive way it gives the excuse to buy a new DigiTech Drop pedal (Limited edition BLACKOUT version) from sweetwater. And I can tell by the disappointment and frustration in your voice you Love the Drop pedal. I know it's a bit pricey @ $239.99 but if you love it, it's worth it. -Good luck.

Zoom or boss pedals would not break I think. I used to think guitar pedals never break, like spoon or kitchen knife. Recently Behringer, Korg and EHX jointly proved it was wrong.

I think OC5 is very different inside from other octavers. It does Fourier transform, select several peak frequencies then making sinus waves with those few frequencies. Other pedals take input and play it two times slower, which is more simple and sounds more like base guitar out of the box. I like OC5 for sounding different from the input and ability to play lowest note only.

I just bought the hx stomp for my acoustic guitar. I’m not interested in tweaking settings on the computer. I scrolled thru the presets and only see about 37 presets, none of which really work great for my acoustic. How do I access the other 460 presets? Where can I see a list of the built in presets that are designed for acoustic guitars?
@LeFeversAudio2 ай бұрын
I'm actually not sure if they have any factory presets for acoustic or not; I seem to recall there are electric (with amp), electric (no amp), and bass ones by default. I find the computer easier to use than dialing in presets with the knobs but it can be done that way, too, if that's less of a pain. Sorry I can't be much help!

I use mine in the manner of fattening up my sound, Not to much just a small amount of blend EQ to taste mono in stereo out to a Boss DD7 Delay and then stereo into TC Hall of Fame stereo out goes to Amp on my left a Clean valve amp and amp on the right is a 100 watt solid state amp. Many of us tried this method to fatten your sound if your the guitarist playing in a 3 piece band. I've tried this with EHX, TC Corona., MXR but there's something special in the ICEBox regarding the sound even if it's the Made in China version.

Great vid - thanks! I play guitar for worship on the other end of the state from you. The other guitar guy in this ensemble plays a McPherson which puts my Taylor to shame. I’ve never been thrilled with the amplified sound of my guitar to begin with, but now I’m on a mission. Researching IR’s and leaning toward an HX Stomp. Liked and subbed - hoping for more helpful advice!

Thanks! I hope it goes well. It's definitely a challenge; acoustic usually doesn't sound great on its own but also doesn't sound great if it's way OVERprocessed, so I bounce back and forth sometimes between trying things and then backing them off. Right now I'm leaning more in the EQ direction than anything but it's a moving target. Good luck!
@youtubesucks38822 ай бұрын
It sounds absolutely horrible. Even if you split the guitar and bass signals so that you have two isolated channels to work with, the octaved signal sounds like it has a very low sample rate. No amount of finessing on the part of the sound operator is going to save that sound.

I followed along with your video and got a “test” preset to try out in the morning. Can’t wait.
