so my thinking of a drive pedal to buy is the boss blues driver, would this be good for worship?
@LeFeversAudio11 күн бұрын
That one would be terrific. I haven’t owned a blues driver myself but I’ve always heard good things. It’s definitely the right ‘type’ - low to medium gain, fairly transparent. 👍🏻

Great explainer! I use VL splitters and a current doubler to power my HX Stomp and about 10 smaller pedals off an MXR ISO brick. I used 3rd party splitters in the past but it made me feel like I was putting my pedals at risk.

I am using a Tone Hammer DI. Because it lets you control the gain and volume out to the board, would that be more like a Line Isolator than a DI because the volume doesn't drop off? I am running my HX Stomp into a THDI then out to the board. I use the AGS circuit and have my gain set about 9 o'clock. I like the AGS better than the Teemah or some of the other dirt settings in the HXS.
@LeFeversAudioАй бұрын
It sounds like the Tone Hammer is more like a flexible DI; my understanding is that line isolator is electrically a different thing. I wonder if the THDI is lowering the signal to mic level but then giving you lots of range to make it louder or quieter from there. Looks like a great unit, for sure.

I think it sounds very similar, I even slightly prefer the RAT on high gain, but the low gain of the DRV is lovely, it's really hard to choose because you get overdrive and distortion with the DRV, but it costs 250 bucks which seems like a lot to me. How will the RAT sound, stacked with some boost in front, we all have a boost on our pedal board, we could use it to simulate the low gain of the DRV, will it sound the same? It would be an interesting test, I hope you can do it.

so I DID listen with headphones on, and I am curious as to your feelings after re listening with your headphones in. Did you like one over the other? I thought the BOSS was quite richer in tone than the MXR.

For Guitars with single coils with hum what you recommend? Great video
@LeFeversAudioАй бұрын
Thanks! I don't think the DI/LI situation would make any difference to pickup hum. I just use a noise gate right at the beginning of my pedalboard to trim out some of that hum before the rest of the pedals. Mine is an EHX Silencer but there are others that work just as well, I'm sure.

Excellent shootout!! -Scarlett rise sound. -Audient smooth balanced and more weight. -Warm wa12 less low , more character in mid and most hight. All sound great.

Love the format. Let the results speak! The Audient is the "clear" winner in this one, in my opinion.

Instead of running the sansamp into the svt block try moving the svt block to path B and running them in parallel. That’s what I do with the B15 and Noble di blocks.

Maybe solo’d. But what it sounds like solo’d isn’t as important as what it sounds like in the context of a mix. The extra top end helps add energy to the bass. Of course, this depends on the song/type of music.

How timely this is since I finally today ordered an HX Stomp to use with bass. I still have a big pedalboard including lots of Darkglass pedals, so I mainly wanted to replace an old Zoom BFX-708 digital multi-effector. Don't really need the distortions or cab sims, but who knows, I might change my mind. Oh, btw, I'm in Phoenix too.

Excellent advice on the stock cabs and exactly how I feel about the idea of Strymon likely knew what they were doing when they picked the stock cabs. Besides a lot of the differences in cabs can likely be matched with an eq. And anytime I’m running my board direct to a PA I’m using an eq pedal anyway as you never know what you’ll get with different house speakers. Thanks again.

Here are my thoughts. I suspect the line level may clip the transformer a bit more leading to “sweeter mids”. I have been doing a much of research on transformers in audio gear. Maybe someone else can chime in on this.

thanks so much for the Hx stomp patch. Im gonna give it a try. I sold off 99% of my pedals (kept a cali76, and thronheim skarbass one) and bought an HX stomp. I have dialed in 5 tones to cover all my playing. My biggest take away with the HX stomp is if you're using a stage amp/cab to remove the amp/cab block, or if you are going straight to the house, to remove the amp/cab on a footswitch. Makes it easy. Next, use the global setting to remove useless low (80hz and below) and useless High( 4k and above) ,on all patches. Finally, figure out the amount of gain from each bass, and adjust it so its perfect, and figure out how to footswitch it in, incase you switch basses during your show.

Thank you for this walthrough 👐🏼 I have thought about doing this for a while now. Gotta buy one this summer, which would be working as both my double amp pedal for my electric guitar (when I play modern stereo set up) and as my only pedal when I play bass in church.

Nice! That's about where I landed, but on my electric rig it's acting as a delay, then on bass or acoustic it's my only pedal.

You should have tried a low-gain setting. The DRV sounds best on a ‘just breaking up’ tone where when you play louder you push into clipping. I never change that setting, it’s the first thing in my chain and it will never leave my board. It’s fantastic for that slight boost at the beginning.

Here's the thing, if you have a line level (so not instrument level) it's best to plug that into your board or mixer via the line input to have the less "colored" sound, but that makes sense for home studio. On a stage the sound booth is far away and there's usually more mic input than line input, so it's normal to convert line level signal to mic level to then go through the stage patch going into the mixing desk. So yes, it's cool to have a line isolator at home or on small gigs when you have that possibility, but on an actual stage you need to convert that signal, hence the use of DI. As a final note, yes there would be some loss (mainly because of transformers and capacitors) but in full band mix you would hardly ear the difference with today's analog to digital converters. And for people that does have an amp, you could do reamping with a DI and an additional reamp box (which is a DI in reverse).

Ive got a Canyon and love it! Im buying the TC Flashback because its similar but can run on a 9volt battery so it can be usec with a battery powered amp,etc. Its just a bit more portable.
