What is your mineral setup with those rams in with the cattle? I've always heard sheep aren't supposed to have mineral mixed for other species because of the copper, but I've always wondered if it's really the danger people make it out to be as I see sheep in with cattle all the time. I'd love to put my sheep in with my dad's cattle in winter to reduce hay feeding/waste, but I've always had reservations about the mineral situation.

We have a long, drawn out story regarding sheep/cattle mineral. You can message me thru the website if you want to hear it. The short version is we landed on Free Choice Mineral system where animals select what they need individually. Free Choice Enterprises is the name of the company. Expensive, but one of the best moves we’ve made.

@@birchfieldfarming thank you! We only have 12 sheep so it would be over-kill for us, but my dad is considering sheep to run with his cattle for better weed control so this is good info to know!

@@brittcorleyIt’s a great move for multi-species grazing👍👍

If the critters have free choice of the separate minerals, it is not an issue. If the minerals are mixed, then it is an issue.

What age do your rams first mate with the ladies? Also, do parasites die in frozen temps?
@birchfieldfarmingКүн бұрын
Rams are ready to go first breeding at 7 to 8 months old. Parasites like barber pole worm are negatively impacted by extended frozen temps. It’s that warm, wet environment where they thrive.

@@birchfieldfarming thank you! I have a new ram that will be 7 mo old soon, but he is much smaller than the ewes
@birchfieldfarmingКүн бұрын
@@kayspitzmueller7544 Yeah, I’ve heard of 120 day old St Croix ram successfully breeding ewes, but he was heavily grained. For straight grass-fed, they’ll be smaller for longer but will eventually reach full size. My rams are breeding at 7 months old but certainly are not full size at that time.

Any once about nose bots?
@birchfieldfarmingКүн бұрын
I have never had a single issue here in almost 7 years of raising our St Croix with nose bots. Matter of fact, I had to Google it.

The content is just not good enough to be a daily podcast. You need to cut this down to a 3 minute video.

@@reefingwithcalvin7336 I'm pretty sure you are the POS spreading negativity. Did your mother sleep with another man and divorce your father and then raise you alone? (Vegas odds says true) My first comment was sincere and then a mouth breather (that's you) started with a line of negativity. Don't let it bother you that women don't like you, just go to a Ditty Party and you will find your place in this universe.
