Multi Trunk Ficus: Dave's Bonsai E277

In this episode, I take three cuttings from my friend Henry from Henry Two Bonsai and put them into one clump-style bonsai. I also have a few updates for you on what was our second snowiest two-day stretch this late fall as we approach the Winter Solstice.

Hard shoveling that heavy rain/snow laden paths. Take your time and have a cup of tea to take the chill out of the bones. Remember they call this heavy soaked snow: The Widow Maker. So, take your time. Takes me a couple of hours to shovel that stuff, slow but steady. Be safe with the shoveling. Great outdoor scenery and bonsai trees.

@@DavesBonsai Here in Aus ficus are everywhere in the wild, so very easy to yamadori a unique tree. Most have really stunning Nebari, My whole collection is yamadori, usually finding the best ficus in abandoned buildings or coming out of drains along the road.

Clump looks great. Why not backfill with the original soil though?

I almost did, but gave it a little higher quality soil.

Dave, I've got 3 ficus growing in a pot in a heated conservatory in the UK. Do you think I'd be OK to repot it as you've done?

If they are healthy and in a heated conservatory for good after care, I’d say yes. If ever worried about the roots after a repot like mine or maybe yours, by a heat Matt for under the pot. The roots will love you for it. My room stays between 65 and 75, so I think I’m totally fine.

I have a new year old ficus. It has ehat appears to be abranch or arial root straight out of the trunk near the bottom. It has come straight out with two seedlings rooted from it. Do i cut it off? What is it?

You can leave it if you like it. A lot of people like Areal roots. Or cut it off.

I have a pa and it is pretty big. It was not potted as a bonsai. What potting soil do I need for this plant.

I use pumice, lava rock and Akadama. Any succulent blend can work from an online seller.

@@DavesBonsai thanks. It looks like I can make this into several bonsais.it is losing leaves like crazy, but hopefully it will get better with proper soil.
