That C5 landing is about as close to perfect as it gets. Absolute butter! That nosegear sets down like a baby in a cradle, soft and gentle. 👍

I came here to see the Airbus A380 and Lockeed C5 compared, but soon realized my dad worked as a design engineer on both the C5 and a little later, on the 747. He had been working on the General Dynamics F-111 in Ft. Worth, TX then we moved to Kennesaw, GA (as Marietta and Atlanta areas were full with an influx of new people). After the C5 project, we moved to Los Angeles, CA for dad to work on the original Boeing 747 (what culture shock for the family, as Kennesaw was super rural!). How wonderful to see these great giants all landing in the same place! Amazing video, with such great memories! Thanks!

The Military Pilots made the sweetest landing out of the 3 aircraft. The BA 747 was all over the place, which I found interesting, especially in view of the fact that there was zero wind. Zero wind confirmation at 2:46.

Bei dem Jumbo 747 muss unbedingt die rechte Landeklappe erneuert werden. Die C-5M zeigt eine solide und starke Flügelform. Perfekt!
@georgemallory797 Жыл бұрын
Military teaches to keep full elevator deflection on the rollout for maximum aerodynamic braking while keeping heaviest possible normal force on the mains. That 747 let the nose slam down compared to the C-5. Passengers get uncomfortable doing a wheelie down the runway, which is why the airlines let the nose down quicker.

Why are the rudders active after landing?
@verticalgyno7 жыл бұрын
to control the direction the pilot use the pedals, on ground the pedals act on the rudder (as in flight) and to steer the nose wheel. With the pedals the wheel steering have a little angle range (5-9 degrre L/R) so when the land phase end (roll out) to maneuvering the aircraft the pilot use a separate command in the cockpit (called handwheel or tiller) this command never act on the rudder. At high speed (on ground)the best effect to control the direction come from the rudder (aerodinamic effect), more the speed decrease more the nose wheel steering will have effect on the direction. Hope you understand what i mean, sorry for my not good english.

The C-5M may sound like a 747, but they're not as powerful nor performance-savvy as a 747, let alone a 777. The A380's bypass ratio is similar to that of the older C-5's, yet they (GP7200) may not be as eye-catching as the TF39.
