PICS Society is embarking on a new venture, aiming to showcase a captivating fusion of cultures through a carefully curated dance troupe.
With the full backing & support of PICS President and CEO Satbir Cheema, this initiative seeks to embody the diverse ethos upon which PICS stands by highlighting the different cultures/ethnic groups (including languages) served by our staff. A group of dedicated staff members was originally formed by Raoof Fani, and are currently being trained by two choreographers, Salena Goundar and Esha Cheema, to learn a blend of folk dances representing various cultures including Punjabi, Persian, Kurdish, Turkish, Arabic (Dabke), Ukrainian (choreographed by Julia Rychkova), and North Indian (‘Afreen Afreen’ choreographed by Dance with Shivi).
The PICS multicultural dance troupe, composed mainly of novice dancers from within the organization, made its debut at the Friends of PICS Gala & Fundraiser - 2024. We envision this troupe not only as a testament to the multicultural values of PICS but also as a symbol of unity in diversity that can inspire others. The goal is to establish a reputation for the troupe with performances planned for significant events throughout British Columbia.
This performance features a diverse lineup of performers including Shweta Soni, Yuliya Dolmatova, Chomal Ahmed, Sara Azadi, Raoof Fani, Fariba Amiran, Daljit Hundal, Simranjot Bal, Mariya Sakvuk, and Diksha Chopra.
