Wouldn’t AA size tool holder be more appropriate size-wise? A size looks too big on the video relative to the lathe size.

Yes, it would. I went with A because it's a lot more rigid. Sure, I give up the compound, but once I finish the ELS installation, I won't need it at all. The extra rigidity really makes a difference. Being able to use larger tools also increases rigidity.

@@JohnSL "I won't need it at all." How are you going to cut tapers? Other than the solid mounting block, you didn't actually gain any rigidity, you just made tooling more expensive. A smaller size would have put the toolbit/insert closer to the ways, and with the limited power of a small machine you really don't gain much having 2X the amount of tool holder you need.

John, thank you for posting this video. I have the same Maximat 7. Could you please share the height of the custom tool post that came with the lathe (from the machined bottom to the machined top)?
@JohnSL9 ай бұрын
Yes, it's 0.9 inches.

John do you know where that 1 piece solid steel tool post that came with your machine, came from?

Hi John, I also bought an emco mat 7 lathe. Just ask where did you buy the mounting plate for the multifix tool? Greetings Dolf

Thank you for making this video. I recently purchased but haven't received a Maximat 7 and would like to upgrade the toolpost in this same way. I recently purchased the same manual for the lathe. I haven't been able to determine if the mill will accept the 3/8-16 threads in a mt2 for endmill holders. Are these the correct size?

I’ve the same mill lathe combination, 8.4 and the wedge style QCTP works well .

Easy way to square up tool post is to lay a parallel acrost your chuck then the tool post up to the parallel. I bet you already know this.

I do, so I have no idea why I chose the hard way to do it. But it was be a good learning experience to improve my skills. Now I just need a small brass hammer. Oh wait, I have a lathe, so I can make one :-).

You know I watched your video, saw the size, and still managed to order the wrong size multifix. I guess it'll be another 4 weeks of waiting for the slow boat from China, lol.
