I had never saw one of these until about a year ago I visited a store in newland NC and happened across one. I bought it just outta curiosity and am pleased. It wouldn't be recommended for any rough treatment or long term use but for what it is im impressed.

At first I was thinking my Casio watch has the ability to tell me the altitude, barometer, temperature, compass and the watch has a solar powered battery system so I don't worry about the watch battery going dead, so I don't need this but then I thought after you started showing the little tools that this could be a last ditch type of item to have in case you backup item(s) fail, get lost, broken, stolen, dropped, left behind, etc. I was hoping the tiny ferrorod was going to work and I'm glad it failed on video because if I decide to get this item I immediately know I have to superglue or epoxy the ferrorod into the handle. I wonder if the company made it that way to be replaced with a new ferrorod if/when the original one wears out.

I have several GOOD compasses, however I did buy this for the added goodies. I will follow your 'glue' instructions although I have the Real Deal Fire Starter...GREAT VID!!!! Cheers from Canada, the Land of Ice and Snow ;{ )

Not a bad item for the money. But you will need to glue the ferro rod in immediately or it WILL fall out.

Yeah and they still work, I keep it hanging on the pegboard with my tools, its accurate amazingly enough.

You'll not go wrong sticking to the old basic SWFF formula for a survival kit, something this kit doesn't do. Make sure you have Shelter, Water, Fire and Food. These basic items are essential, much more so than a hygrometer or a level, IMHO. A large garbage bag, a quart ziplock freezer bag with some water purification tabs, a Bic-type lighter, and a couple power bars weigh less than a pound and will fit in a pocket.

Funny thing is that when its closed the mirror blocks the compas from working on mine

With the compass viewing slot when closed if you hold it horizontal it should still be visibly working, well it does on my 2 tools 👍
