Excellent explanation, I have a similar benchtop voltage supply, it can only supply a max of 32 volts lol. Whats even worst is that there is no demand for benchtop power supply which can output AC voltage along with DC. I found on aliexpress a 120 volt DC bench power supply, it was a reasonable price, will get that someday.

I hoped you would explain a bit more about the difference between the auto scale and the manual scale since you started with that. Until now I am still thinking that autoscale is better and manual scale is for cheap 4 buck multimeters since they have never an autoscale. But I am not sure anymore to be true... Looking forward to your new multimeter review :)

why doesn't the 2000 count bench meter 'round up'; you had 26.4 (@5:40) - shouldn't it have displayed 26.5 because the actual voltage was 24.488? Can some 2000 count meters do the 'rounding'? Is it a setting on the meter perhaps? I'm ok with losing precision but giving up a whole 1/10 of a volt when the voltage was less than 2/100 of a volt away. ???

I get it, you explained it better than the other sources I tried to understand. What I DONT get is why the lower counts are so limited in the first digit. I can understand resolution, but why not allow each digit location to be 0-9. I mean, I can't imagine it is really technically that hard to put that on a DMM chip. Databyter

I just bought a Flir CM46 that says on the flir website that its a 6000count meter. Went to measure a 1.5V AA battery and it measures as "1.5V" and not "1.500V". I was expecting with 3 digits of resolution after the decimal point. What gives, Are Flir misleading?

On the first one, the 2000 count meter, you say we've lost a digit. No you haven't. If it is reading 2.01 volts then that's all it needs to display right? So where have you lost a digit? I'm going to guess that you mean it does not display 3 decimal points. I mean...who ever needs 3 decimal points in volts? I love the way you tried to describe it but I am still not sure what resolution is, and if you are doing basic home DIY stuff I think it's fair to say a simple 2000 count is going to be more than sufficient?

I find that very annoying that they can't make them all 000000 counts all the time, that I could messure 240.000 volts, or what ever, without loosing any digit.

Thanks Paul. Got a question for you: I have a power suplply DPS3012 from Ruideng/Bangood just as you have, so I can monitor the current consumption. I made a 2A iPad charger and see that the iPad is charging with the intended 2A. When I measure Amp with a separate multimeter in the supply, the current consumption drops from 1.99 to 1.56 or so. Measured with cheap (Aneng 8009) and more expensive (Dynatek 9020a), doesn't make a difference. I don't understand. Can you explain this?

Hey you missed a range switch and I doubt that "digit" is the correct word for your explanation. The right DMM has something about 40.000 counts and 4 4/5 digits, right? It switches range at 3:10 from 4 to 3 decimals. Better use a specialist book for self-training not KZbin. Sorry man.

That right hand meter is a 40,000 count or 4 and 3/4 digit meter.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Ignore the 200k count, that's just where it moves the decimal point. If you are inquiring how 0.416mA would look on 5 1/2 digits... 0.41600

I took a look at the Holdpeak HP-770D; it looks like a nice meter. But I don't understand why every manufacturer has a different arrangement of the measurements you want to make with that dial. Our life would be much easier if they all had the Volts on the left, the Amps on the right. Resistance in the middle etc. Really strange. It would also be strange if they all would make another PC keyboard with the complete alphabet in a different order. Cuckoo

The most logical meter in terms of the positioning of the functions is the old Fluke 27/FM. There are 2 OFF positions, arranged vertically (at 12 and 6 o'clock positions). All the DC functions are on the right side, all the AC functions on the left. Near the bottom off position are the resistance, continuity, and Diode test functions. I can't really find fault with this layout in any way. This is an old meter, so it doesn't have things like frequency or capacitance tests, but in terms of ease if use and logical layout, it is great. Too bad no other meter has used this layout.
