Tucker as Ruby Rhod was a blessing, especially because Prince was cast originally as you can tell from the wardrobe, but Prince didn't like the costumes so he passed. Chris Tucker really made Ruby shine in this movie though, and it's still one of his most cherished and memorable roles to date.

This isn’t ”trends of the 90’s” as scifi clothes. This is haute couture of the 90’s as scifi clothes. It’s Jaean-Paul Gaultier and it’s cool. It also feels more of the world if you’ve read any french scifi comics.

Used to be on tv once a week if not more if not still..... though eventually i got sick of commercials and got it on dvd and played it on a loop for background noise while gaming. At one point youve seen it so many times you can just listen to it like a radio show and follow along when you feel like paying attention again. Did the same with the Matrix and the Mummy, depended on whatever mood i was in.

The thing that the thief guy had on his head was a picture of the empty hallway. So when they look out the peephole they see an empty hallway.
@williamvigil2481
@williamvigil2481 6 ай бұрын
Correct, it's a picture of the hallway, but there is no peephole. It's a camera that looks down on who is standing at the door. You get a good perspective when Leeloo is seen standing in front of the door. It's an overhead shot.

Never understood ppl being pressed about a character honestly. It’s a character, hes an actor, what was the problem? He did his job, and played Ruby hilariously. Name another movie in the beginning of his career where he didn’t play the same person over and over. This film actually showcased some range. Not to mention oldman is also “feminine” in this role. Are we really still this bothered by a feminine character this late in the game?

"90s Fashion" - the costume design and all over optical style is, to put it mildly, heavily inspired by the comic book series "The Incal" by Moebius, a famous French comic book artist. So it's 70's fashion. :) The movie is in large part a homage to his work - and he even got to work on it himself. :)

Love ❤ this movie. Seen it 100 times. Don't understand why Chris Tuckers performance would bother anyone, even anyone homophobic. It's just a performance. He was hilarious. And I also remember back in the day many black ppl saying they didn't like the portrayal of a black man that way. There's a lot of ppl, all kinds of ppl, still holding onto a lot of old negative s#@t.

I feel like everyone I know who fell in love with this movie when it was new really love Ruby, but I've seen so many people reacting to this movie in the last few years who don't like the character. It's too bad because Chris Tucker killed it.

One of the most unique Sci-Fi films of the 1990s Luc Besson after La Femme Nikita & The Professional with something amazing. This one here is unavoidable as an reap gem of it's genre. Everything in this is great, artistic, colorful, energetic and truly ahead of the curve. The first of 2 movies for Bruce Willis in '97 and another futuristic tale after 12 Monkeys (1995). Milla Jovovich's first time as female lead in a blockbuster film. Acting, modeling, recording albums and married to dir. Besson in the same year. Gary Oldman in that time was the 'most versatile' villain actor ever and as Zorg, he just does fearless intimidation like second nature. Chris Tucker before 'Money Talks' in the same year. He's Ruby Rhod Because Prince (yes him) was approached and said no. Even the clothes looked close to Prince's wardrobe. Tucker rarely talks about the role. But it's considered a fan favorite of his career. 2 video games, one in 1998 (action) and 2001(racing). The first is considered among the worst games (movie based or not) of all time. RIP to Ian Holm (Vito Cornelius), Luke Perry (Billy Masterson), Brion James (General Munro) and Tommy "Tiny" Lister (President Lindberg). Besson made the film, 'Valerian and The City of A Thousand Planets' (2017), based on the French comic series of the same name (1967-2010) and inspiration for his vision and look of The Fifth Element. It didn't do well at the box office. But it wasn't not a bad movie neither. Check it out if you want.

This was one of the first movies (aside from Star Wars) that I saw more than once in the theater. This is the movie that truly kick started Chris Tucker’s career. He was relatively unknown going into this movie. You have NO idea what an experience this movie was to watch in the theaters. After a few days of release, the word got out about two of the lead or main characters being people of color. In the craziest and best of ways. When I went back to watch it the second time, 75% of the theater were black viewers. I’m white, but I’m here to tell you it was a crazy and fun ride watching it that second time. The audience was very animated and vocal. It was a blast. I have had very few theater viewings that were as fun as that one. I took my son, and it’s one of our favorite movie experiences ever.

"What the hell is that thing on his head?" - He'd perfectly recreated the image of what it looked like through Corbin's eyehole in his door. That's why when he first looked through, he saw an empty hallway. You were looking at the painting. The dude was acting strange because he'd been standing there all night long with his head bent down so the damn painting was in position for when Corbin would leave to go to work lol. Separate to all of that though, you're correct, much of 90's fashion was a _lot_ to look at.

Awe no Tuckers character is one of the most iconic I’ve seen. You have to see that everything was exaggerated like the buff deaf guy in a dress. He was acting that the was acting a character his radio personality can as me up with. I’d me willing to bet the over the top performance was all Chris. Keep in mind he was attending the attendant at take off so he’s straight but very flamboyant. Could be a cultural kinda thing but I still live and respect the guy. Is there anyone that dude isn’t friends with?!
