A lot of this is momentum based. If they lose a large amount of workers at once, then the company or business tends to lose steam fast if they can't immediately replace them(Hard even in unskilled positions). For an industry facing business, that tends to mean no money going into the coffers, and thus every hour brings them closer to critical shut down, for more public facing, it means people are going to assume you're closed, even when you do reopen, as going to go check takes time out of their day. And of course, reputation amongst the hiring pool is going to be worse, as incoming workers have to do even more to get the business back up, so you're going to have to offer either higher wages or something else to sweeten the pot. Basically, a mass walk out is a nice one-two punch against the business, and even corporate style business/stores have trouble getting a location back up when it happens.

I can tell you. I worked at Boajnges for a little over a year, 2 different stores. We had over 30 people quit in 4 months we had literally maybe 8 people on staff instead of 25-30(that's right people would come in and quit within a week, everyone left had been there for over a year). So managament had me(a part time employee) working 65+hours a week which was annoying but I made shifts run smoothly cause I could do all the positions very well. I mean I would be the cook, baker, pack orders and drive thru all at once. sometimes I would even do the front counter at the same time cause I was basically the only one there and management obviously didnt help me finally got fed up with management and quit

Worked at a Dunkin Donuts as manager (when they all still accepted tips) my district manager was at my store at 5am in my office waiting for me to show up. Apparently the higher ups decided they didn't want the kids to take tips anymore and that I had to break it to the 23 kids I had on the schedule that they cannot accept tips anymore and she thought offering me a bonus would get me on board. I refused. She told me it wasn't optional and if I didn't like it I could quit. So I handed her my keys and started to walk out. At this time it was 7am and the main morning crew was there. They asked what was going on and I explained to them that the DM was trying to get me to take the tips away from them for a bonus check every month. All the morning crew walked out with me and some of the girls contacted everyone else that wasn't there. No one showed up for the afternoon shift. They were making $20+ in tips daily. We were #1 in the franchise. The company struggled to fill the shifts because we all quit that day. The store closed 2months later.

I had a manager who was very fond of the sayings "if you don't like it, there's the door", and "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". I left a short while back, and now I'm told by the people that are still there that she is actually trying to refuse people's notice and saying they're not allowed to leave because too many people left. I made sure to tell them that she's not allowed to refuse their notice, and they can most definitely leave.

@hauntedshadowslegacy28264 жыл бұрын
If she's still attempting to deny peoples' notices, check your state's laws for a possible one-party consent policy (for video/audio recording). If your state IS a one-party consent state, have the next person who quits have their phone recording (keep it non-obvious, of course, by keeping the phone by the hip and keeping the screen facing away from her). Any and all evidence acquired should be delivered to a lawyer who can then help with legal proceedings. However, it's VERY important to make sure the state is definitely a one-party consent state; check that right off the bat.

Fun stuff for employees to know ( I'm in TX, manager of a team. ) 1. Employers cannot retroactively reduce your wage. IE: you cannot work 8 hours then be told you'll be paid less. You must be told ahead of time. Your boss cannot reduce your wages for time already worked without you knowing. 2. When calling in sick, your employer has 0 rights to your private health care matters. IE: They cannot grill you over a sick call. HIPAA protects employees health care privacy. 3. Even in "At-will" states your employer cannot fire you refusing to break the law, or for your gender, race etc. If they say this when they fire you, call a lawyer and sue for discrimination. They can only say you are being let go for business reasons, protected class laws still apply for at-will employers. 4. If you get laid off please do not feel embarrassed for filing for unemployment. It's a benefit built to help people while they'll find another job.

Used to be a General Manager at a McDonalds. One day, my district supervisor came in for a routine inspection. Well, the ice cream machine was out due to a gnat infestation that we had isolated and found the nest inside of the tubing. We didnt want to open it because the gnats would escape and we wouldn't be able to get rid of them. He had been informed of this through E-mails, corporate visits, and again when he walked through the door that day. So what does he do? He opened the lid to the ice cream machine and got our store shut down. I lost my job because "Its my fault the problem was not isolated and no professional was being called in to handle the situation" Meanwhile, I'd been working with pest control for a week to figure out where they were coming from, how to isolate them, and they were coming back the next day to get rid of them for us. I ended up having to open 6am and close 12am( but didn't get out until 1-2). No one ever did their job. I got fed up, and took control. Brought the place back to life. Hired fired, fixed the games, cooked, prepped, and handled the complaints. While I asked for a raise and left for a $1 more, else where. Well once they realized they needed me. They called me as if I was still working there. I asked for a$1.50 raise. He said no. A month later they where closed. It took two months for the business to fall. My husband worked at a famous fast food place. They where remolding. So the last night they are open. There is already half the staff they need. Yet the manager decided to be a slave driver. Well half of that half walked out with in 30 minutes of working. Note they lost more than half of all their employees. No work or pay for more than three months. Lol

But then my dad broke his thumb at work. Dropped an engine part on it because no one was working to help him move it. Work tried not to pay for it. Boss started talking to managers saying he was going to give my dad a job he couldn't do with his restrictions from his hand, and then write him up for not doing it fast enough. A manager warned my dad and my dad quit. My dad had the most experience out of everyone in the shop. He had worked there 20 years AND had gone to college. The store had been hiring 19 year olds with no experience. 19 year olds realized no one was there to do there work anymore and quit. The manager that warned my dad quit and moved somewhere better. A douche my dad didn't like quit and started working at a Wendy's. My dad and his best friend started working at a place that has pizza parties every friday. Another douche my dad didn't like was hired there and my dad's surprised how well he's working.

They announced those people were being docked 45 minutes to over an hour pay and out of 35 people 21 got up at once and walked out together with the managers panicking. I quit the next day and 2 months later the center was empty, I found out they went down after 3 weeks.

Another company took over ours, and it was known that they would be moving to our building on January 1st. We were told that there would be some layoffs, but it would all happen after the 1st; they wouldn't tell us who was being let go. Everyone in my department quit on December 24th, with no additional notice, and started looking around for other positions during the week between Christmas and new years; all but one person had a new job ready to go in the new year, and, we all got all of the holidays off. Management was of course unable to find temp help that quickly, so our managers had to cover it all themselves, and had to work not just Christmas eve and Christmas, but all through the holiday week as well as new years eve and new years day. When the staff from the other company did arrive on the 1st, there was no one to orient them to the place, either, as we had removed as much information documentation as possible without it being obvious it was done.

Auto parts store after the great recession, new District Manager brings in a new Store Manager, some Drill Sergent type loser, and tells us we're going to be stealing from the customers (ringing them up for things without telling them, and telling them they need something even if they don't, ring them up for it, and letting the customer complain if they don't like it) in order to improve his on-paper results with corporate. Half the store quits over the next two days. I quit directly to the DM's face, telling his he needs to watch his legal arse or he's going to end up in jail. Worked as a packer at Amazon on the nightshift; about a week before Christmas the shift manager comes onto the warehouse floor and tells us "Everyone is working the day after Christmas regardless of your rota; no exceptions" One guy said "I'm flying out of the UK first thing that morning, I'm flying out to Jamaica with my wife and kids to visit my Grandparents for the first time in years" Another guy said "I've got my kids the day after Christmas, their Mum has them on Christmas day" both of them had either booked it about two months in advance; the managers' exact words were "Make new plans" I was one of about 60 people that walked out with those two guys, I'd already put my notice in and been offered a better paying job a few days before anyway.

I work in the kitchen at a retirement center. During the pandemic the residents got angry being stuck in their room and took it out on the kitchen, in particular the chef. So after they were allowed out of their rooms they initially took it out on him still but he got fed up and “transferred” himself out by going to different accounts (we’re third party with multiple locations). So he left me in charge (his sous) but failed to train me. Now just this week he came back briefly and said we all suck and everything we’ve done sucks. So myself and three other people put in our notices. We are staffed at 11 people but was already short one, so we now have 6 people running two kitchens. If I remember his words correctly the words I overheard from him was “those guys will never be loyal to me as they are to him ever again”. That’s what happens when you abandon your team and I get them all on my side and try to help them through this pandemic.

Worked at a restaurant as a waitress. The manager constantly propositioned myself and the other waitresses for sex (he was married with kids. They came in regularly). We compiled texts and recordings of this behavior and went to HR. Meeting went well. Then he spoke to them. Dude called us all liars and promptly cut hours of everyone that stepped forward. Harassment continued for a week before we all gave him the finger. I quit 20 minutes before my shift. From what I heard, almost everyone else did too. He had two waitresses left to work 8am until 10pm. Store closed a few months later because stories of his behavior traveled around the town and no one applied for the positions.

Worked for a security company for about 8 years started out in house and the job was great because the property manager and shift manager were cool and pretty much let us use our talents and had a very open door policy regarding improvements and scheduling. Well the property owners decided to get a security company to take over and essentially not deal with us passing the buck. Eventually that company merged with another so we started all over again after 6 years me and a coworker having seniority lost 20 hours vacation time due to the new policy. We stuck it out hoping things would change but nope it got worse. I always worked the overnight shift because I'm a nightowl and rather deal with drunks then snobs during the day. We had 2 brown nosers constantly viewing footage of the night shift to snitch or make us look bad even though in my 8 years had 2 break ins and was alone but I kept a good eye on the place. I had given 3 skateboarders permission to skate in a closed off parking area no traffic and told them if they see anything weird to call me since I was alone figured 6 extra eyes on the place was good and they were happy I didn't kick them out because it was a beneficial thing for both of us. Well the snitch called the property manager and shift manager and I had to meet with them about the skaters. I said look I know these guys they don't trash the place and since I was alone mind you a open outdoor mall with 6 entrances and no back up robbing the place with witnesses around would be very difficult. Well eventually I ended up quitting afterwards so far it's been robbed 7 times including a apple store and Gucci store being the biggest losses. Seems my replacement was the snitch and he got caught sleeping in the bathroom.....lol

I work the weekend shift at a racing stable. I like it, it keeps me active and moving as my job is to clean the horse boxes and lay out fresh bedding (saw dust) and there are dogs and cats there to cuddle and pet when there's a chance. I really like working there on a Saturday but Sundays are a dread sometimes because I share the shift with this woman who claims that I am slow with what I do and if it's just me and her, she believes the quickest way to clean the boxes is for her to shovel out the mess while I go back and forth with a full wheelbarrow of poop and come back with fresh saw dust, starting with the 'inside' boxes, there's 18 of them. She usually comes in a bit later than the rest of us and when she does, she goes around to the 'back' boxes (6 of them) and either piles the mess in the corners or drags it out to the front or both and those usually have more saw dust than poop and it creates a bigger mess for us to sweep and her having me take the crap and bring the fresh saw dust leaves me no time to get anything else done as many horses are taken out at once. I mentioned the 18 and 6 sets of boxes, there's also a set of 10, 12, 3 and a few new ones being built. It's a load of horse shit really (pun intended). Surprised I haven't quit yet.

I worked for a plant nursery during the summer a few years back. Everyone I worked with was great, except for the owner. He was this stubborn 60-something year old man who was the kind of person who could talk all day but wouldn't listen to a single thing you said. For the most part we were a retail business but sometimes the owner would go out on Landscaping jobs for certain clients ( his friends). Unfortunately, I would always be the one picked to go with him. So when we were working at the landowners home the owner asked if we could not tear up the grass as much as need be because it was new and we were using a tractor and excavator. So I knew this and after I had filled up my tractor bucket will dirt I backed up the tractor a bit so I could take my turn a bit wider to not rip up the grass. The owner who was in the excavator started shouting that I was going the wrong way. We were both on very loud pieces of equipment and he could barely hear already so I had to yell to him that I was going to go the way he wanted me to and tried to tell him what I was doing. He instantly jumped out of the excavator and got in my face screaming and yelling at me because I talked to him in a "nasty" way. I was already fed up with the job and with him and I don't take getting yelled at very well so I shut down the tractor told him I'm leaving and went back to the nursery to grab my stuff and leave. The owner had called my manager named Adam ( who was a great guy and pretty much ran could run the nursery by himself) and told him what was going on so when I arrived at the nursery Adam pulled me aside and told me that I should just relax and think things through. I talked with him for about 5 minutes telling him that I had made up my mind and I wasnt going to waste my life dealing with a shithead who made my life hell. I guess I had inspired him with what I had said because when I went to go pick up my paycheck the next week I noticed that a good portion of my ex-coworkers were gone. It turns out when Adam quit most of everyone else left with him. Adam I guess had gone through and rethought his life and decided he was done working there where he wasn't appreciated. The owner retired that summer and gave it to his son whose running the business still and Adam along with everyone who left with him went on to have better paying jobs where they were respected.

Was between IT jobs and took a job working at walmart in the early 2000s as an assembler. We were paid .50 cents less than a cashier for a shit ton more work as we had to build everything and anything in the store and for customers. We were forced to work outside in the weather, at that time it was either 100-110F and full sun or it was t-storm and flooding. They made us stay outside no matter what. When it rained with lightning bolts hitting a mere 50 feet or so away from us and water everywhere, we were all huddled on a picnic table under a cheap tiny carport yelling for the electric to be unplugged as the cord was underwater and we feared from being zapped to death. After a sunburn, flu and sickness in the summer and two weeks of this shit, the entire department quit.

My brother worked at a local pizza place a few years back and loved it. Great pay at 11/h (minimum wage was 7.50 I think) and good hours with a super relaxed manager. Keep in mind place is super popular at the time, and is always pretty packed. About after a year since he started working there, the current relaxed manager leaves on good terms bc he was heading to a different school to get his masters. About a week after cool guy leaves, new manager walks in and immediately starts getting to work. He fired three of the morning crew and one of the drivers without reason and dropped everyone down to a dollar above minimum wage. It’s now a few days before July and this particular store was right across the street from a park where one of the biggest firework shows in our state would take place in dust a week or two. The 4th of July also happened to be the busiest night of the year. Now a lot of annoyance and anger between workers was slowly building by this point, as manager would require you to ask for vacation two weeks in advance, would constantly deny the hours asked for, and wouldn’t put out the schedule usually until the night before. Since his hiring, they’d gone from 8 drivers to 3, lost half of the waiters, (they got the worst of it, he’d sometimes “supervise” and walk around snatching tips left behind, and denying it when caught,” and the janitor, who’d been there the longest of any worker, at 16 years. Fourth of July roles around and the restaurant is absolutely filled to the brim. There was up to an hour wait for a table and it wasn’t even the busiest hour yet. A new hire in the kitchen working the salad side (salad side did salads, Mac and cheese, and most kids meals,) was rushing to get an order of Mac out to a waitress and collided with manager, who hadn’t done anything, minus scream at the staff for being lazy. Manager lost his shit and starts berating kid, who was just barely 16 at the time, and rather timid, to the point of getting him to cry. Eventually everyone in the kitchen is staring at them and there are even a few customers trying to peek into the kitchen to listen in. He turns from the kid and begins to berate everyone, telling them they’re all expendable and lazy bums. After the screaming everyone is still just staring at manager who is red faced, and everything is quiet. Assistant manager, who was always a complete asshole, (was a great worker, and helped everyone out filling roles that needed more people, was generally just a asshole by nature,) steps forward and wordlessly flips the bird to manager, and walks out the back door. Everyone starts to follow suit, dropping everything work related by the door, minus the uniform, and walking out. Manager starts screaming again, and now there’s a nearly empty kitchen, with hundreds of people waiting for seats and to be served, and about half the tables lost waiters. From what I heard from him a few days ago, manager couldn’t get anyone who wasn’t scheduled to come in either, as they had told almost everyone what happened. Manager was forced to close early on the most profitable day and Owner fired him shortly after.

I didn't work there anymore, but my mom did. They had a meeting where they announced were "restructuring" everyone's routes and recalculating how many "hours" they were worth. The gist being everyone was expected to do more for less pay. Mom asked then and there how long of a notice she had, and the day after she gave it in writing. She still had access to the info channel a while after quitting, so found out that basically everyone else had quit as well. The higher ups had to step in and do the work for a while and they had to essentially go back on their plans to screw everyone over. My guess is that since a lot of the workers were immigrants (mom and one other woman were the only ones who weren't), they thought they would roll over and just take it. I'm so happy that plan backfired, because there seems to be this attitude that "foreigners" will work for anything. Not these ones, they knew their worth and stood their ground.

This actually recently happened at my old job, management was horrible and all of the supervisors are always telling everyone that they can't do the job right. The job is in a hospital and everyone is overworked, underappreciated, and just mentally draining, people started leaving and just stop showing up, which caused the supervisors, who are the ones that made people leave, to do the jobs now, poorly I might add. I put in my 2 weeks 2 days ago and they asked me if I would leave in 4 weeks than 2 weeks, I felt insulted because I went into detail on how the job I'm doing has been mentally bad for me, haven't seen my family or spend time with my wife in a month and they just didn't care. I stopped coming in to finish my 2 weeks because I have a temp job lined up so I'm not sure what's happening now but to know the supervisors who told me that I suck are now forced to do my job that they have no clue to do makes me happy.

He slowly became more and more lazy and would leave dirty dishes for the next shift, which was normally me, to clean. I worked everyday and lived almost and hour away from my job, one day I had off he begged me to come into work for him. I said no I can’t. I doubt anyone is going to see this but I work at Jiffy Lube. For those who don’t know, Jiffy Lube is a quick oil change place that you drive up to and get your car or truck serviced and you are on your way. For the record, I really enjoy working there but it wasn’t always so great. Anyways I started working there almost two years ago, the head manager at the time (we’ll call him John for the purpose of this story) was on his way to running the place into the ground and was also hated by all the workers and the two assistant managers. Within the first month of me working there, multiple people had quit because John had the mentality of “you either do it my way or you hit the highway.” A few times, he would keep the store open after the normal closing hours and would clock everyone out which meant they weren’t getting paid for the extra time they were working. He would also fire people over stupid crap like wanting their schedules switched with someone else, working too slow, etc. Multiple people had either quit or were considering quitting because of John, this included a guy who had been there since 2005 and our cashier lady who had been there since 2007. The only reason I didn’t quit along with a majority of the people that did quit was because I literally just got that job and at the time I just didn’t want to go through the hassle of finding another job. After a ton of employee complaints to upper management, John was demoted and transferred to a new location and I never saw him again. We had a new head manager (who for the purpose of this story I’ll call Mark) come in to replace John and everyone really likes him, he knows how to run the place and if even go as far as to say that he saved the place from shutting down. Mark still is the head manager and I definitely think he is the best manager I’ve seen there.

I worked in a large factory with about 500 employees. There was a team of 8 people who were responsible for handling raw material used by the rest of the factory and their supervisor was a jerk. Even people like myself in other departments couldn't stand him. One day he told his team that they were worthless and that "this place will run with or without you". They all requested transfers to other departments ( always lots of open positions in a factory that large) and HR being incompetent approved every single one not realizing they left nobody but the supervisor on that crew. Because of this the entire factory of 500 employees ground to a halt within 2 days due to having no raw material. Management told them they all had to go back to their old jobs until they could find replacements, but they all refused, and because they had all been approved they couldn't legally be forced to. Management brought them all in for a meeting to negotiate, and at the end of the meeting the supervisor was walked out of the building by security and the crew went back to work with the most senior man on the crew becoming the new supervisor on the spot.

I worked at a paint factory, and the bosses cared more about saving a penny than our safety, then would spend the day bitching us out because the machines would break all the time(which he wouldn't replace, or hire people to professionally fix them). About half the crew quit at the same time(Not planned. We all just found other jobs at the same time.)

I’m an Aussie and started working full time after high school, and before that I worked in a cosmetic shop in Melbourne. I have never worked in an unhappy environment with awful bosses in my life. I was with the police for 15 years, and after that the office girl in an auto electrical business. My bosses in private and the Police department were always great to me. I’m in a country town and worked at the police station here, and if it was quiet and all of my work was done my Snr Sgt would let me go to the hairdressers, or go shopping. I have been happy at every job that I had, but the Police Station was one where I looked forward to work every day. Worked with over 30 guys who were always respectful and looked after my son and I at night by checking that the doors and windows on our house were ok. It was like having 30 big brothers. I miss those guys still. The best job on the planet and always something interesting going on. Even had a murderer caught by our night shift crew going to dispose of the body, so we had the Homicide Squad there for the day, news crews, etc. The only crappy time I had was when very early on a New Years Day, one of my colleagues turned up at home and asked me to come in as they had a female who had been arrested and no other females were on shift to search her. I lived the closest so they came and got me (I had been ignoring the house phone, this was before everyone had a mobile) and I had to go in with a terrible hangover and feeling rather queasy. It was the quickest search that I have ever done and I refused to check in her knickers as I knew that my stomach could not cope with that 😂. Fortunately no knives or syringes were used against them so obviously she had nothing serious stashed down there, plus I told them I could not bring myself to check and to keep on eye on her via the CCTV in the cells.

When minimum wage was introduced here in Germany, my boss apparently made it a point to let his employees know that he'd find a way to get around it??? As if they'd, too, find that desirable? Was before my time but I've heard 7 people left (out of like 20)

Brother's friend worked for a cheapass owner who routinely docked pay for stupid things. The owner called a meeting in the break room and berated the entire crew of 200+ people for close to an hour. He then said that since no one was getting any work done, all pay was cut in half until improvement was shown, now the most some one was paid there was like $10 to $12 an hour, so the whole room of 200+ workers quit in on day. The company went under in 2 days and the owner was arrested for drugs and other stuff.

This just happened at my work. Our department is about 15 people. The supervisor of our department is bullying people including me but I just ignore him. Someone else who was being picked on, in front of everyone, told the GM. The supervisor and all of his buddies took their stuff and walked out. They were all hard workers but the work place is a lot more calm and tolerable with them gone.

I too worked for a buffalo wild wings. That place was trash! They treated the servers like crap and over worked us making us work doubles just about every day with having to come work the next morning. I tried to get a day off so I could go to my daughter's play and they said no. I took it off anyway and got written up. I quit that hell hole.

I ran a department for a chain computer retailer. For 5 years I had near zero turnover. The little turnover I did have was due to move aways or students graduating and moving on to careers. So much BS at that place that I could write a book. I finally quit with no notice. Just one day handed my letter of resignation to my boss right on the floor and watched his face turn white--See 'ya! Within two month half my department was gone, 80% by the end of the year. Turnover went to 65%. The crap store manager was gone within those first two months, as my low turnover was part of the store's profit picture--Oops! And as people from my department exited, the low morale elsewhere in the store cratered and turnover store wide shot up--Chain reaction oops! Magnifying it all was that the "evil ones" of management, corporate stooges, and misfit favored employees that I had for long held at bay were no longer constrained, and the store became a nightmare of politics, infighting, and fear.

Worked for a company that had reported a 10% increase of profits four years in a row but hadn't given pay raises in six years. Get called in at shift change and the boss yells at all of us that we need to work harder because he didn't get his full bonus. 1/3 of the people quit right there.

At the place I used to be working at, (major construction job) I was a steel fixer. We were smashing the work. Fast forward 6 months, they hire all sub contractors. Subbies taken over all our work and we are out on labouring positions. The concreters eard about this, one found another company and fast forward another 2 weeks, big og company loses 7 concreters, 4 steel fixers and 2 form workers. As I write this, more are to follow as I’ve heard. Soon enough the big company is gonna have no actual employees and is gonna have only subbies.

I used to work at a department store’s loss prevention department. Our manager finished his degree and was leaving; the obvious choice was the detective who had worked there the longest, did his job when he wasn’t there, and everyone in the store (as well as the rest of the LP department) loved. Management decided to bring his buddy from another store in instead. His first day was the last day of all 7 LP detectives. She was screwed out of that job and we all hated them for it.

I have a story. I was working at a high end retail store previously which I really loved for the environment, people, and most of all great employee discount. Although I really liked the job I wasn't getting much pay from it (minimum wage and paid every two weeks) and I was already planning on quitting. The tipping point was when our manager left to go work at another store location and was replaced by a manager that got a bad reputation before she even started off as a manager here. Apparently she was foul mouthed to other associates including the current supervisor. She had screamed at a 17 year old associate once that had a serious medical condition for calling out due to health problems (she literally walked around with something sticking out of her chest which most of the associates were not aware about, something to do with her heart idk, but I'm sure the new manager was aware) that associate never came back after that scream. She was repeatedly caught calling other employees "stupid" And "retarded" and judging people from behavior. One of our previous supervisors quit on the spot after some violent screaming in the backroom occurred because the new manager had made false promises to make associates work harder at register to get more cards later to find out those promises were a lie. That supervisor wasn't happy about that and let her know clearly to her face before he stormed out of the store. Eventually the environment changed so much that a large number of employees were planning their quitting time. So one day I was working, maybe Easter day, I decided to finally do it. Me along with another coworker put in our two weeks at the same time directly to the supervisor. Shortly afterwards that supervisor also put in their to weeks. And it continued on from there. More put in their two weeks. Some stopped showing up. This all happening within a month timeframe. Now I believe there are completely new faces in the store but the new manager got hit with so many quittings in a short time that they became very short staffed. I hate what happened with the store because it was my first favorite retail store I worked for, but unfortunately, sometimes it takes one person to ruin everything.

On my first day of work for my first job I was told I would be a cashier and making 7.50 we’ll get there it’s 7.25 and throw me outside to do a job I had no idea how to do. Mind you it’s 100 degrees outside and a few of my coworkers had been working since opening and it was near closing NONE OF THEM HAD A BREAK OR WATER. So I walk into my managers office and what do you know she’s sitting on her ass not helping with the customers or anything so two people quit right there. I then went to check my schedule after we had closed And I’m scheduled 40 hours. (I’m a high school student still in class) she yells at me for checking it and right there I quit!

When I was 18 I worked full time as an assistant manager for a local yogurt place. I ran everything. And when I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. The only person above me was the owner and the man had no clue how to run a business. Anyway, after a year working there and 9 months of being the manager under my belt, I approached him about a raise. I was only making 8 dollars an hour and this was back in 2013, so it was nothing. He claimed that he could only afford to give me a 50 cent raise and I pointed out that I did the store’s numbers and knew he was lying. He promised me a raise and, a month later, I got it. A whole 25 cent raise. I had enough. Gave him my two weeks. Would’ve walked out but I really cared about the employees that would be very affected by this. Trained the lot of them on how to do the things I was doing and explained why I was leaving. A large number of them were shell shocked to learn that, apparently, I had been making the same as them. Owner decided to “call my bluff” and when my last shift came around and I handed him my keys, he was completely stunned. “Wait, you’re really quitting?” “Uh... yeah. That’s what those 2 weeks were for.” Month later I get a call from him. He’s panicking. Apparently more than half the staff quit unbeknownst to me as they were unhappy with the amount of work they had to do with me gone. Owner begged me to come in for a few hours as he was desperate and I was still on his payroll. I agreed to on the condition that I got paid double for the shift and it had to be in writing. He agreed and I saved his ass. Customers that came in that day were thrilled to see me and they all told me how bad the place had gotten. When I told them how I wasn’t planning on coming back, many, many told me they weren’t either then. Owner called me the next morning begging me to come back. He offered me a dollar raise and I very politely told him to fuck off. Three months later, the place closed down. Dude should’ve just given me a raise.

We lost 7 skilled operators in a year. The amount of knowledge and expertise that was not passed on was worth at least a million dollars. They started handing out write-ups to me for the smallest things. Imagine getting fired for 1 grain of salt un-counted. After they let me go, my supervisor and our lead guy were gone within 2 weeks. The company folded and was absorbed by another in less than a year. Sweet justice.

Yup! Worked atcan auto auction in the body shop. The shops were literally making 54% of all revenue. Our managers were studs and we all worked our asses off for them our of respect. They also stayed with us through long hours to get things done on time. We made excellent money and were proud of our work, until the general manager decided to bring in an old drinking buddy who was about to get canned from his job in another state working for the same company. The man was clueless. Spent money like no tomorrow and was totally covered by the GM. Pissed off clients pulled their accounts. Pissed off employees complained to HR to the point that both our good managers were demoted to entry level jobs and the HR director was told to retire early, which she did. We went from a 33 man crew to a 3 man crew in less than a year. The shops (who made the lions share of money,) closed down. Sucks to be them.

Company I worked for some years ago got taken over by another company. Not long after one of our new directors came round to give us all a talk, told us they were pleased with their new purchase, that their only concerns were the high staff turn-over and low staff morale, that they were aware both problems were caused by the low pay (we were nearly all on Minimum Wage) and that they would be doing something about it. They then proceeded to make "errors" with the payroll of the entire workforce every month for the next three months in an attempt to hide the fact that what they'd actually done was CUT our pay! As soon as we realised what they'd done there was a mass walk-out. So many staff left the largest branch they had to close it for several weeks while they recruited and trained replacements. By the end of the week so many staff had left right across the company it looked like they might have to do the same with all the branches. In a bid to slow the exodus they made everybody eligible for the previously management-only profit-sharing scheme. When the way it worked was explained to us they were non-committal about how much we might get - pointing out that it would vary depending on how much profit the company made. They did, however, state that if the company made as much profit that year as it had the year before we'd all be in line for a bonus of about £1,000. That didnt impress anyone very much as we'd all had our pay cut by rather more than that (Mine had been cut by £1,400 - and remember, this was a few years ago, when £1,400 was a considerably higher percentage of the Minimum Wage than it is now). The company's financial year ended 31st December and we were told that while we might get our bonus in January, February was more likely and it could even be March. In July we eventually got £125. There was another mass exodus. This time the company did not recover and had closed down within a year.

A company I worked for decided to relocate without much notice. At first was hesitant, but was ok with it because they decided to pay for my relocation including helping with bonus equivalent to 3 month advance salary so I can find a place to live... I was single at the time and even the promise of a better salary seemed like a great idea at the time... Thing is, the boss was retiring and leaving the company to his son. Turns the original owner/boss planned a smooth transition with the son assuming the leadership before moving. ... I was one of the few employees he couldn't complain about and couldn't fire me because I was his lead marketing and advertising guy. My department kept exceeding forecast/making money. So he started writing me up for showing up 2 min to work one day, taking "too long" during lunchtime with no description of what that meant and was overall annoying to be around. What really did it for most people was when he decided to advertise everyone's position on our hiring section online. Morale dropped instantly after the announcement. He argued that we would "miss out" on the best possible talent if we didn't. Half of the staff including myself quit the next day cause he literally said he could replace us all tomorrow if he wanted to. ... I later kept in touch with a friend that stayed and told me that the new boss moved the company near Houston because the land/taxes were cheaper and stated that it would further reduce cost because products were shipped near Houston anyways so less transport. He did little to no research on the land. Turns out it was a flood zone. They learned out the hard way during the company's first year during Hurricane Harvey. Houston recovered quickly. That company remains closed since. Last I heard there was lots of problems with my old boss, including talk that he was considering suicide for selling everything to buy new property/start a new life in texas. He also ended up wasting his retirement on bailing out his entire family from damaged property and debt. Wish the old man the best, but man did he make a series of terrible choices.

I worked as a regional manager for a national after school arts program. I oversaw dozens of community centers and had many employees under me. Upper management was completely out of touch with regional issues and treated everything like a statistic. They never listened and overworked me and the other regional managers to death. I was only supposed to work 40 hours m-f but I was putting in OT on weekends to make sure the classes were ready for the next week. After weeks of being understaffed, under-provisioned, and overworked, upper management tried to fire me for not performing. At that moment I told the other regional managers (whom I'd built a report with) that i was leaving. They all left with me. My teachers under me also quit when they learned what happened. There was a mass exodus of over 100 employees in less than a week and they had to shut down all operations in my state. Fortunately, I contacted the community centers personally and set them up with my teachers so they wouldn't be out of a job. Just not working through that shitty company any more. TL;DR: A national company tried to fire me so I shut down all operations for them in my state in less than a week.

The company decides to use an App that creates shift's automatically, 6 people hand in their notices after the first few days, and a further 3 people simply didn't come back. I got a lip piercing and was told I couldn't work even though at least 4 other ppl had facial piercings including managment. The day my boss told me to shave my mutton chops even though many others had facial hair I put in my 2 weeks. He asked if it was because he told me to shave. I just didnt say anything and walked off. The gm was fired weeks later, an assistant manager was put I prison for child porn, and the only other manager I respected was moved to another location.

Worked at Chick-Fil-A for almost a year. In the last 3 months of me working there, we had lost 2 of our managers (almost lost 3) and over 10 employees, including myself. The new managers weren't inherently bad people, but they treated me like I didn't know how to do my job, despite the fact that I'd worked there for 10 months. Not to mention I used to get barely above minimum wage to deal with customers who would yell at me for something as small as not getting enough hot sauce, then throw their trash and half-eaten nuggets all over the dining room. The final straw was when I saw that we had ants and flies in the dining room, and management's response was "just use fly spray". After I decided to quit, I later found out that 4 of my other coworkers had plans to quit as well. When I told them I was leaving, the first thing they said was "yeah I don't blame you".
