In this DIY shop project video I walk you through building a multi-purpose garage storage station. This was a fun project with my father and we were able to organize his garage a bit better with this DIY build. He now has a shop storage cabinet, which organizes his screws, miscellaneous hardware, tubes of caulking, spray cans, and many other things he’s been needing to organize. The tupperware storage approach really worked well for this weekend garage project.

It makes me happy watching you working with your parents. My father passed away nearly 2 years ago to lung cancer. There's no single day that I dont think of him. My mom is still here but bed ridden now for months. She has dementia, feels like she's not here. I miss them both . Cherish every moment with your parents. We are lucky to have loving parents.

Love the video. Its great to see you working with your father. My father was from a generation where you made everything for yourself. If you couldn't make it you did without. He taught me basic carpentry and car mechanics. At the age of ten I helped him rebuild our old car, a complete body swap and engine and gearbox rebuild. It meant that nearly all of my cars I brought second hand and kept them running myself for in one case nearly half a million miles. Just before I retired I built a 200 sqm extension onto my house and my son who is a better mechanic than I am helped with the construction. I recently remarried. My two stepsons don't know one end of a hammer from another. I cant really teach them because I have no workshop. Modern houses here have no space for a workshop. I intend to remedy that. I am looking for a block of land and intend to build my own place with a workshop included. It isn't the retirement project I was planning but it will definitely keep me busy.

After seeing this, i'm thinking of making something similar for my kids Lego containers. The containers are currently just stacked in the game room closet. Doing something like this will allow them to see all the containers, and what is inside since they are clear plastic, and be able to get to the bottom ones easily. Great idea April. Thanks.

April the great thing about the shop organization is that as we get older it makes it a lot easier to find things! I saw my dad and myself do the same thing, we should have built the organization rack first!! Great family interaction and love.

Hey April, I'll share something I came up with yrs ago for nail/screw storage back when I was still working as a remodel/flooring contractor.(disabled now) I drank a lot of country-time lemonade, The empty containers (washed out) make great nail /screw holders. They don't rust, don't shatter when dropped and come with handy-dandy cup to hold a few for small projects. Plus you can write on the lid with a sharpie and they just fit into 4" PVC pipe. I built a shallow box from wood, gluing in "rings" of the pipe gluing the rings with dabs of adhesive caulk. The rack could now be hung on wall and filled- hope this helps someone -Tyler
