A little history and a question. Since the late 1980's I, a white guy, have dated and lived with several black women. I met my black French Canadian wife in 1997, we married in 1999 and are still married. Please be kind with your answers, but what is the fascination with mixed couples and WM/BF in particular? I can tell you from years of experience that we are just like every other couple. She is just a bit darker, has a smoother complexion, and is much prettier than I am.

There has always been a fascination between black women and white men. During slavery, white men desired their slaves not only for their beauty, poise, exoticism and sexuality, but for the femininity ingrained in them in Africa. This, in part, is why anti-miscegenation laws were enacted (i.e. due to white mens' desire to marry free black women). I've dated white men before (and am obviously black) and have had no issues (except for "Scotty", the rich white guy at SMU (Southern Methodist University, in Texas), whose parents flew "ALL" the way from New York in order to "meet" his black girlfriend). Another funny incident was when I dated a very handsome, white lawyer and was waiting in line at a theater when a white deaf mute woman walked up and separated us with her hands and shook her head as to say "no, no"! We laughed and laughed !!!!!!! OUR relationship should have been the LEAST of her problems, ha ha ! And by the way, I'm sure you are as HANDSOME as your wife is BEAUTIFUL (not to mention your progeny!) Be blessed!

I think because it rare. Black men date interracially a ton and often times black women are thrown to the back while mentor women and other groups of women are pushed to the forefront. So seeing a white man who in society can basically take his pic and choose women who are definitely beautiful but have to work against society’s standards is new

I can’t believe there are “fools” debating the authenticity of her Southern accent with such ferocity. It’s a movie, you clowns! She’s an actor that made a good enough attempt at an accent. Focus on the story being told in this movie! Not the same. You play a character to allow your audience to get lost in the story. That is kind of the whole point. Having an atrocious accent is enough to yank people out of the story. It’s not that small of a thing and it is not the same as not “stabbing someone with enough gusto.” Unless you know how all serial killers murder their victims, they can make the role their own. A southern accent is either authentic or inauthentic. There is no gray area.

Violet and Sidney are lovely together, and she's very beautiful, but her accent, along with the other "Southern Black American" accents presented, was a distraction during this period of the series. Not on point at all. If this were an American set of actors and actresses doing this in the reverse--in the UK or here--they'd get dragged to the ends of the earth for it. We know this. I'm not directly from Alabama, but I know people from there, as well as my own Southern kin, and just, no. Still, she and he are great, and the chemistry is more believable with Violet than that other one he was running around after.
