I'm testing it in VR (virtual reality) and I made a "busy" mission in order to "stress" the SIM and see the result. I tested it with the F16 Viper in the Syria map and I also Fought 2 SU33 Flankers. VR flight sim is the ultimate experience in computer gaming, I still play RTS but now enjoying a lot VR FSims thanks to my recently-acquired 4090 and 5800x3d. Can't wait for them to get more powerful. People say VR gaming is dead, but this is enough for me and enough of a money pit to keep spending on... The ultimate toy to add to this would be a 2 axis motion simulator, worth tens of thousands

I wish, my one, sincerest wish is that the DCS team goes the extra mile and enables VR touch on the dashboards. Keep HOTAS, but dear gods, don't force us to map every button to our joystick and then have to remember it all. That's just not optimal. And when I say VR touch, that's without a controller in your hand. The Quest 2, for example, can detect the hands and fingers, and can use your bare hands as controllers. Eagle Dynamics, if you're listening, I'm a dev with decades of experience and would love to do this work.

That would be awesome! I currently use PointCntrl FCUs, which is the next best thing. They're a little cumbersome to setup and they cost close to $200, but they work really well in game, but you still have to wear them. The best solution is what you've stated.

Im pretty pumped, i have a lower end pc (i5 10600k, 32g ram, 3060ti, finally just got open xr toolkit going on the quest 3 and im flying around at 50fps with pretty good results. Once I learn to set it up even better it'll be unbelievable. Got me back into DCS

I’ve got a similar setup using an Oculus Quest 2 but really poor image quality that I’m trying everything to improve. Are you using Oculus Tray tool? If so can you share your settings? And are you using cable or Airlink?

Way to go ed! huge performance gain for me in my pimax vr. Stutters are almost all gone now. Still the odd cpu spikes/stutter but 80% less. I can finally now do vr in multiplayer. Edit: fps drops still too much in multiplayer unfortunately but still it looks great for DCS future

I'm amazed people even talk about "corruption rates" with the replays. Idk why, but my corruption rate is 100%. Even the smallest mission, just me and a single bandit, in game I take off from an airfield and shoot him down. The replay shows me taking off, then immediately banking and crashing right into the runway. I'd really love it if DCS would get a working replay mechanism next.

Nice job man, sick video. I wanted to mention that i think there is a glitch right now in VR for visuals of bandits. I've noticed too that i can see aircraft and ai/ground targets CRAZY far in VR and they also don't seem to be masked by clouds. I've been trying to figure out if its some special spotting help that was included or indeed a glitch, but I'm calling out targets in VR that my buddies in pancake cannot see at all. Just tonight I spotted a ground compound from outside of 18KM as an apache pilot and walked my cpg in. It was a giant black brick.

Probably due to the lack of pixels. The display is trying to fill in the details, but it just makes the targets larger unintentionally, so it makes them easier to see.

Personally I think your Vids are better than GS but don't tell him!😜 VR, I want this so much but cant afford the kit, but my Squad mates and I have done testing and VR does give the pilot a much longer range when it comes to spotting the target we have branded it not too much advantage for the VR player but a serious disadvantage to the 2D player. Tankers are hardly visible for us 4K flat screeners at 10 miles unless your lucky enough to zoom in on the exact bit of sky they are in but in RL you can't zoom in with your eyes! Reducing the resolution does not help either! Most think it will, it has something to do with how ED makes other planes visible in 2D versus VR. Since my DCS flight instructor is a real life RAF Hawk T2 training Instructor and previous Tornado and Sea Harrier Pilot he says that the VR rendering and ability to see Tankers and other aircraft at 20>30 miles easily, is more realistic than what us 2D Pilots get and this is why we call it a disadvantage for 2D players rather than an advantage for VR. So i can only hope for the day i can get a VR headset! Keep up hte good work!

Mutlithreading can be good if you have a processor that has a slow primary core speed. So its best to not use MT but have a super fast primary core.

How are your experiences with graphic sharpness and ability to spot faraway objects based on the VR resolution on the Rift S ?? The early VR units are not great in terms of resolution but I have not kept myself current with the newer YR units. I'm building a new rig to play games like DCS and I'm undecided whether the should just stick with TrackIR. Would appreciate your views. Thanks

Performance is much improved in VR with MT for me. I just wish it ED would fix the full screen resolution so it isn't so stretched and distorted so I can simply record one eye straight on the desktop with Shadowplay like it was before the MT update. Was recording VR great at 2560x1440 until yesterday. Fix one thing, only to break another it seems

Hi LS, how do manage eye strain and headset heatup with VR in general? I love VR but longer sessions for DCS get difficult with use. There is no comparison for the immersion of VR and I found it much less finicky than Track IR

Happy to hear that replays are finally working! Totally agree, can't imagine flying without VR, I even feel kind of sorry for DCS content creators that to do their job they need to fly in 2D right now. I hope ED will improve the track recording system, so you are able to show a high quality image from headset POV in the track like we are in IL2. This would allow you to make all the videos in VR and end up with high quality content in 2D to show to us. Because the way you are emotionally invested in VR is not comparable to 2D, and this makes videos much more enjoyable to watch, we can really feel the action you are feeling 🙂

Diggin the VR. It gives an idea of what you're looking at in the cockpit for those that are trying to figure out where you're getting your information. GS was using some sort of eye tracker for a while, but I guess it never caught on.

Once i played DCS in VR with my HP Reverb 2 - I never touched my headtracker again. Basically just threw it in a box never to be seen again. It's next level gaming and 2D actually looks flat and wrong after.

I agree. With MT, VR is actually performing somewhat well and it’s very usable. Before I couldn’t stand it because of the poor performance. Yes the immersion was there but it was unplayable for me. I just spent last night on PGAW and had a blast. Launched off of the boat, delivered some HARM’s and did a Case III back into the boat. Wonderful experience. I’m only using a 2070 Super as well. Settings are pretty low but it still looks “pretty good”.
