People don't realize how capable the late Sparrow models are. Those things have a huge burn time and a max G-load of 30Gs against a target at sea level. *Thirty Gs.* there's a reason the Sparrow can be considered a dogfight missile after the AIM-7E-2 model
@LockDCS2 жыл бұрын
I use 4xAIM-7M's and 4xAIM-9M's on my F-15 on online servers and I get most of my kills off of Sparrows. It also helps that I've noticed that sometimes the 120's don't kill the target especially if it's large. The AIM-7 turns anything that flys into metal confetti if it connects.

You might want to consider starting the jet yourself instead of auto-start. Auto-start takes longer and misses a few things, for example it doesn't set your gun counter and it leaves your altimeter in standby.
@OperatorDrewski2 жыл бұрын
Yup! I haven’t flown the cat in awhile and was a bit lazy on these sorties. Rarely does the gun counter or altimeter in standby ever really effect my sorties.
@mostevil10822 жыл бұрын
@OperatorDrewski rad altimeter standby means you don't have altitude markers on the HUD in landing mode. Makes a big difference if you're doing a proper carrier break, you had them on though I think. Bare minimum manual start-up is really easy. You only need air and ground power, arm the seat and start each engine then switch air source. Then just setting up while you wait. It's not the flaps that make the Tomcat so floaty: it's the entire airframe. Very nice video, OperatorDrewski, it is great to see that you enjoy the Tomcat. A sidenote: when you lock someone with PAL, it is a PSTT lock (not a PDSTT lock), which means that any phoenix fired is active off the rails. This is always true for PSTT locks, while in PDSTT it is SARH only (and does never go active). Hence in WVR range PSTT makes sure that you can fire and forget. ;-) Best regards from the Heatblur Team.

I haven’t watched the full video yet so this comment may be useless, but the TF-30 engines in the F14A acted more like ramjets, the faster and higher you are the more power they produce. The F14B’s engine were better at lower altitudes and could pick up speed a lot quicker
@CAPFlyer2 жыл бұрын
Yep. This also meant the F-14A was faster at altitude and maxed out ~ Mach 2.3, while the F-14B, while having more thrust, topped out at just Mach 1.9. There were several reasons for this, principally aerodynamic in case of an engine failure, but also because the F101 was just designed to be most efficient in the Transonic (Mach 0.9 - Mach 1.4) range as part of its development for the B-1A.

Personally, as someone pretty passionate about military aircraft, Ive never been able to see alot in real life, especially the F14, obviously, so the idea of active ones or even **potentially** active ones is quite a concept for me, thus I have spent quite some time on google and bing maps in the past. In the 4th row of the southmost side of the aircraft boneyard in Tucson, there appears to be a 4x f14's and if you go about 300m north followed by a lonesome singular one, I found a further 2x on the NW corner along the road. Now thats easy pickings though. On bing, the 4 are moved north 300m, however it appears that 2x are in the yard closest to the south-southeast, without wings Its also fun to try and sus out the Iranian air force bases for planes left out, You can see stuff such as F-4's and all sorts of old school classic aircraft. On the very very east side of Mehrabad Air Base, You can see one F14 sitting out, very clearly aswell. On Bing maps there's another one chillin with all the helicopters on the southside. Isfahan International Airport also has 5x out in view on the right side of the base, sitting next to their hangers. on Bing maps theirs *potentially* 7 there. I could be wrong about some of these aircraft being F-14's, please correct me if I am, sometimes I do in-fact get a tab bit too excited when i see swept wings, and they can turn out to be F-111's etc. Enjoy this useless information as I prepare myself for the hate bombardment, for this is a joyous KZbin comment section.

Unfortunately I have recently come to the realisation that my beloved F/A-18's are slowly but surely getting there and will soon be gone for good out of atleast the RAAF, with the classics already gone last year (2021- RAAF, 2019 for US Navy, still current for USMC and Spanish Air Force) Im hoping to get my butt into gear and get into university or something along the lines to eventually get up into either the front or rear seat of a Super Hornet or Growler before they are gone in '2030' from RAAF, which may very well end up being '2026/2028' sad days since i dont have any, well... liking for the F-35. MOAR DCS PLEASE Fun fact about the tf-30’s, yes they are wheezy sob’s down low, but get high and light the fires, higher and faster you go the happier they are, MUCH higher Mach speeds (2.5+ if I recall) than the B variant, test pilots had to pull throttle back because they were afraid the airframe would start to come apart.

Watching this really makes me want to test out my new GeForce RTX 3060 on DCS so I'm gonna go learn the F-16 :) I watched a video of Thunderbirds flying and it made me want to fly that :) I'll probably fly the Hornet this weekend :)

SPOILER WARNING: I wasn't sold of Top Gun Maverick, I felt the whole premise strayed really far from reality having to canyon run with old planes because of blahdeblah. The odd placement of the SAM sites and yadaya made it feel more like a bond film. Then Rooster hit the chaff button for the first time and I was sold. The inner child in me seeing a flare dump with incredible sound design went nuts. Everything after that was pure joy, from the Hind Gunship coming in, to the og F-14 v 2x Su-57 (5th gen or whatever they call them in the movie).

The ending felt like a homage to cheesy 80s action flicks and I’m okay with that. Not super realistic but that’s okay, the first movie wasn’t either. It also introduced the F-14 to the newer generation.

Whats crazy is we still do fly closer enough to the enemies to snap some photos of them. one of the squadrons from my ship actually got a few photos of J-15s flying next to our F/A-18s where you can see the pilots.

Tomcat is my the most beloved module in dcs. Though it takes huge time to fully understand a plane, it is gorgeous on every aspect from nice worn textures through ancient cockpit tto the way it reacts to controls. All fbw planes feel like arcade toys after this monster. But be aware, it is inferior to all other 4th gen in the game when they have fox3, however you still can claim positive k/d ratio on modern servers If you will be patient enough to master this bird

There’s a similar story to that f-14 story that f-22 pilots did too lmao like the radars just couldn’t pick up the f-22s so they were just chillin right next to them until they broke radio silence to tell them to leave or die pretty much

Wow I'm gonna have to get myself one of these? Everything looks realistic? When you were first on the flight deck? I actually believed that the video was actual footage of the goings-on on board a carrier? The only thing that gives it away? Is when dude is running from the jet. Great video bro. Thank you!!
