This is mostly for internal use, but may be helpful for others outside of our organization. It's a follow-up with slightly more detail for volunteers regarding the headphone monitoring of the live capture. This also is recorded at our High Point campus so the setup is just a little different. For example, the input here is set to TracksLive, which is a software aggregate device combing both the inputs from the sound board and the outputs of the headphone into one sound device. This won't exist at the Northeast campus.
It's a simple walk through of the system with basic operation guidance. Intended for initial volunteer training. Please comment with any questions or reach out to me directly.
If you are from outside of Mercy Hill and found your way to our video, I'd like to welcome you. Please feel free to comment if you have questions. We use Allen&Heath sound consoles at each of our campus locations, and the one referenced in this video is the SQ5 at our NE campus and the SQ6 at our HP campus. The computers running the Tracks Live application are basic Mac mini systems, one is quite new and the other is quite old, but both are capable of easily running the multitrack recording. We have these directly connected via USB and routing has been setup to only pass audio from the sound console to the computer during recording sessions, with a completely different routing scheme for virtual sound check (VSC) options. VSC allows for us to practice mixing without the band, and our sound engineers can have the most recent recordings for those practice sessions. All of this is through the simple USB connection on the console. I'll try to create some training content for the VSC process.
The purpose of the multitrack recordings is primarily for training and quality control. Other systems may have greater benefits, but we like to keep things simple. If you have other recommendations for this setup or how we might use it more, please comment.
Thanks!

hello. I use Tracks for my virtual soundceck. Is possible to change the output routing for a singol track in a multi out mode? I want to use the same out of my madiface for two or more tracks. Is possible? Where I can do this? tanks for replay. francesco

Thanks for checking out the video. Let me start by saying that I'm not a TracksLive expert, but I still want to help. I do know that you can change the routing of the audio by changing the order of the tracks. Let's say that you want what was originally recorded on track 10 to be played back on track 2, you can just drag and drop that track to change the order when you do playback. If you are on a Mac, you can create an aggregate device in Audio Midi Setup to give you some flexibility with your ins and outs. As for how to route that to your madiface, I can't say for sure. Every interface is a little different. There are some software tools that can be helpful and maybe I can make some videos about that later, but I think you could accomplish this with some third-party software routing using a program like Loopback by Rogue Amoeba, for example.

Look into creating a "Aggregate device" (on a mac) where you can combine multiple audio output devices into "one" that is seen by software like Tracks Live

IS THERE A WAY TO TRIM THE INPUT LEVEL

In my setup, the output from my sound console that goes to the software is Post-PreAmp, but Pre-processing and Pre-fader. Changes to gain do seem to impact input levels in the software, but I'm not aware of software trim in TracksLive.

You shouldn't use digital trim for recording. You're just running the risk of clipping the inputs. Just record at 24 bits (if supported) and adjust the gain (if needed) afterwards on the console / in the mixer.
