Hello this is super cool. I am working on a project that involves use of Arduino UNO and servo driver PWM 16 channel to control multiple motors. I am facing issue run all the 16 sg90 servos together. Currently can run around 9 servos without any glitch. Not able to find out what may be the problem. The adaptor I am using to power the driver is 5V 3A. Which ADAPTER did you use to power the servo driver? Thank you.

Hi! I’m just learning and the movement is quite stuttery compared to yours with the default code, I’ve tried different frequencies but it just seems to change the angle. I’d love to slow it down but the more I slow it down the more the stuttering becomes apparent. Thank you!
@AzaB2C
@AzaB2C 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, I saw some Servos stutter, especially if thin wires are used, or poor connections. I ordered extra 10% servos to account for some not working, and some stuttery ones not working well. Maybe some resistor/capacitor on the wires would help reduce echoes/interference, I'm not a good electrical engineer, so suggestions from people are appreciated. Cheers!

Hello, good day. Awesome work! I'm doing a similar project like this, but would like to use a kinect or motion sensor to control the servo motors, just like Daniel Rozin's work. does the creative engineering course have an in depth tutorial or training for this type of project?
@AzaB2C
@AzaB2C 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Ken! Thank you! The Creative Engineering course content focuses on providing an overview of the process of building something starting with brainstorming through to building something that encourages/inspires students to push and stretch themselves. The course covers some basic sensors and actuators. The cohort community you study with maybe able to help some. There's no vision processing content though. I have a PC compatible Kinect, but am planning to use open cv on raspberry pi for my mostly built v2. Shared info on github if that helps, a few others have shared info on their builds there, good luck!

@AzaB2C
@AzaB2C 7 ай бұрын
Hello @masonroberts9784 ! Code and STL files for this project are available at github.com/aaronse/ServoPixelDisplay, if you're new to coding arduino type projects then consider checking out learn.adafruit.com, they have some great learning guides to go with controllers, sensors and actuators that they sell. However, much of the hardware they sell can be obtained else where too. The Adafruit code and libraries often work fine with non-Adafruit hardware... If you're new to coding and learning your first language, then Python is popular, and you can use Python on Raspberry Pi and even smaller micro controllers by using "Micro Python" or "Circuit Python". Hope that helps, good luck with your team's project!

Hello! Yep, you can use Python to control projects like this instead of C++. Adafruit have some great Python libraries and code samples. github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_CircuitPython_PCA9685 has some examples. My next build will probably use Python and libraries like adafruit_pca9685 and adafruit_moto. Hope this helps, good luck with your projects! @NetNinja channel, @freecodecamp channel and several other have been helpful to me. Hope that helps, cheers!

Is there a reason or standard for the square quantity you have chosen? 12 x 4?
@AzaB2C
@AzaB2C 9 ай бұрын
Good question, only reason was I didn't have time to build a larger version for this project. Had to design, build, code, video in ~week as part of the Creative Engineering course. Liked this 'prototype' and built a larger version afterwards... There's separate 4x4 modules making up each segment because of how the 16 channel controller works.

Hello @@paddymush1, so steppers are definitely preferred by Daniel Rozin. However, I ended up not using them and am instead sticking with SG90 servos to reduce material and complexity costs. I couldn't find, or make time to learn how to design, a reasonably priced 16x stepper controller board that Daniel Rozin's art installations use. However, tons of servos can be wired up 16 at a time to relatively cheap PCA9685 based controller boards. Will share design details when that project is done.

nice, i'm thinking about building similar thing, but with higher resolution, and cost are increasing very quickly!:) do you have some estimated cost of this build?
@AzaB2C
@AzaB2C 11 ай бұрын
Hello! With SG90 servos being ~$2 each and each PCA9685 controller being $5, my costs ended up being ~$40 for every 16 or so wood pixels. Raspberry Pis are getting easier to locate, but they cost too. The project in this video was probably $200 to $250. My latest 192 servo build has Aluminum extrusion frame and brackets that added ~$100, another ~$50 for wall mount. Add some wiring, power supply and other bits and the cost for my latest build is probably ~$700 :-(

Hello @Prashant Kumar, just using Alitov 5v 5 amp for this v1.0 version. 10amp would have been better. 5 amp would be insufficient for worse case scenario if all the servo's were being actively driven and were under load/stalled. I used 5v 60 amp for v2.0.

Parallel power to each PCA8695 using 16ga. Just added photo to github.com/aaronse/ServoPixelDisplay hope that helps! wrt Power Supply, planned on 100ma per servo, ignoring software bugs, they won't experience heavy load or need anywhere close to stall rated current.
