@@bananabolt9098 They weren't actually trying to kill each other in the show. It's revealed that they were running a scam the whole time. Tom "catches" Jerry, and gets rewarded. Then splits the reward with Jerry. They just had to put on a show to sell the scam to the humans. -but after a while, they basically became frenemies. They would get on each others nerves, so some of their antics were legit; they just weren't trying to actually kill each other. Tom and Jerry have different stories in different settings, from the old west to the distant future. The implication is that cats and mice have been doing this scam for a very long time; Tom & Jerry are just the stand-ins who represent the countless generations of Cats and Mice who have been part of this. There are even times when you see that the characters are actors in their animated show.
