As long as you are wearing runners you didn't have to but if you have sandals, thongs/ flip flops then you had to.

Depends on the bowling place and floor surface. Many don’t have the fully slippery floors anymore as a safety thing

​@@mustlovedogs5569all bowling alleys have the same floor surface because they are used for league bowling which is a requirement for league bowling...it's only slippery in the actual alley where the ball is bowled down...when you walk or run on the surface to bowl the ball isn't slippery if you have the correct footwear...bowling shoes or runners as Malinda has stated 😊
