Excellent Tibor. Blimey the metro has changed since 20 odd years ago. Was an old eastern block type train a kind of greeny/blue and lots of chrome. Was incredibly efficient and the guards still wore ushanka hats. Wonderful time had in beautiful Hungary before it was really discovered ❤

That looks incredibly good. You are right that every grandma has a different version. My Polish grandma's cabbage rolls or Golabki was quite simple but totally different from yours. She would fry chopped onion in butter then add it to a big bowl of minced beef, pork and veal. Next was added cooked brown and white rice, and cooked buckwheat groats which added a nice nutty, chewy texture. Salt & pepper was the only seasoning. A head of cabbage, usually Savoy, was either boiled or put in the freezer overnight and allowed to thaw, both methods allowed the individual leaves to be removed. A large, lidded, roasting pan was prepared with a layer of cabbage then a layer of tomato sauce. The rice-meat mixture was rolled into the cabbage leaves and placed in the roasting pan then topped with a layer of sauerkraut and more tomato sauce then another layer of cabbage rolls/sauerkraut/tomato sauce until complete. Lid was put on the roasting pan and it was placed in the oven to cook for a few hours. It smelled so good. It was delicious served with a beef gravy. The next day we would take the leftover from the fridge and fry them up in a bit of butter and get crispy bits on the cabbage. I like your idea of making a soup out of it.
