'Hey Mummy' vlogger, Anna, from Hampshire, volunteered for the live test having had her own scare and treatment to remove pre-cancerous cells after a routine smear test in the past.

I had my first one in December last year. It will be uncomfortable for sure & maybe painful depending on what pain level tolerance you can take but you'll be fine. I did great but it did hurt. I was whimpering because of the pain while my mom was in the room & was praying.

I kept going back to my doctor saying i thought i had something wrong they did a smear test and it came back negative but i knew something was wrong;i had three tests done and they all came back negative but i kept pushing and pushing and on the forth test with the nurse looking at me like i was a pain in the rear within no time at all i got a call saying it was positive(just comes to show these tests are not always right)

Issabella, it's very normal to be worried, however doing nothing at all can not give you any solution, be brave, talk to your best friend and ask them if they could go with you, hopefully you have already been and now you have been told that everything is ok.

I have had this done by 2 female doctors in there together, and they acted like I should be embarrased, "oh so you are going to have a pap smear today, oh how fun!!!" "Well spread your legs wide open!" I wanted out of there now.

She's SO lucky she has a full blanket for some dignity. When I go all I have during the exam is a VERY short paper towel shirt that won't even come together in front and a small rectangle of paper towel material to cover my lower half. That's it. Thank goodness my Dr. is a woman but still, it's just awful.

@@Ben10_0 knowledge-wise and skill-wise I guess they are the same but from my own personal experiences I'm more comfortable with a woman obgyn, as are most women. The male Drs I've gone to have been brusque and also very rough when examining me. Women Drs are more caring, explaining things as they go along, and are a lot more gentle, not expecting you to understand that.

I felt pain the first time I did this and asked the doctor to take the brush out. Test was never carried out. How dip inside the vagina must it go and why did I feel pain immediately. Like,it literally didn't go inside that much yet but once the brush was in I felt so much pain and asked the doctor to stop. She asked me if I've ever been sexually abused?cause she was surprised I was in pain and pleaded for her to stop. Like it was barely in and I was feeling a lot of pain already. She took it out and said to go to any doctor or come back to her whenever I was ready. I haven't gone for a pap smear test since then. That was supposed to be my first pap smear test.

Many women have reported pap smears to be very painful on reddit. I would strongly recommend asking the doctor to apply an anesthetic numbing gel to the cervix before the exam. Some women may also benefit from a prescription for opioid pain medication.

why would any women let a man do that is beyond me. maybe the male dr is nonchalant but...its just weird, very odd. what do other men think of their women presenting themselves spread eagle on a table gettting a shoe horn up their vaggy and then the two finger wiggle. Pap smears have a lot of false positives. Cervical cancer is caused by HPV where almost 90% of women in the 20s have but the virus clears the body in 98% of the time. More importantly, cervical cancer takes years to present. Thus the requirement for a PAP every three to five years after two consecutive samples. And the bimanual, ie. the two finger wiggle, data shows no productive use in asymptomatic women. That is a invasive exam with no use in younger women.
