One explanation for how long this went on and how many times it was noticed is something so horrific to imagine that I almost don’t want to verbalise it. But it’s still plausible. I know how ludicrous and sick this will sound, but this world has never been short of either quality so here goes: Her family has had to make impossible, agonising decisions since this young woman was 3 years old. I’m assuming here, but I don’t know how someone could *not* be permanently scarred from such a loss and the years that would ensue. Going from hopeful, terrified waiting, to angry, exhausted resignation, to desperation at one moment and to hardly believable acceptance the next. Imagine starting out your family and painting pictures in your head of ten, twenty, thirty years from the moment you became one. And then to know that, no, actually…that can never happen for you. Or for her. And you will never get to see who she could have become. What personality she would have at age 23, how old she’ll be when she meets the love of her life, how old you’ll be when you meet your first grandchild. Taking all that into context…it’s not incredibly far-fetched to wonder if this was actually a blessing in their eyes. And if that’s the case, then upon further extrapolation it might be something that deserves investigating. The place didn’t look like they were extremely professional - regardless of this hypothesis. It’s not hard to believe that any number of people working there would either accept a bribe in exchange for allowing it to happen and/or outright 8:10 making it happen. Some of the younger employees may have even been threatened or just stayed quiet without any incentive, focusing on protecting themselves and keeping their job. Just saying. We’ve seen worse out there. Humans are capable of great compassion and great despair, great courage and great depravity. And most of all, great deception
