The switching track is amazing engineering and the fact that it only takes a few seconds to change is awesome. I've ridden on the Disneyworld (Florida) monorail and the ride was somewhat unimpressive. It was actually bumpy and uncomfortable. But then you can't beat a monorail for the "novelty factor".

In the years since 1962 it has only been extended 1 block to terminate at a downtown mall a fact that even Seattleites have joked about in the past. Seattle, aside from the light rail system to the airport, the monorail, the long distance commuter train, don’t actually have any kind of subway for the city and rely on buses and a downtown bus tunnel. nearby Vancouver BC is far ahead in this area and not a monorail system. Osaka has a very decent system, but I find it relatively slow and the track switching is crazy complicated, but neat to watch.

I'm a retired engineer from csx and although we do not have a monorail, when switches are thrown to put you on a different track it is called a crossover, and is also called a turnout, the concept is the same. The norfolk southern refers to it in their rules as a diverging movement. I am not sure what is called on the union pacific or bnsf railroads, as i have never operated on their tracks/line
