Try Karnala fort once. Its not too long. Just 53kms from Thane don't know about Mumbai and you can do trekking also....it takes only 1 or 1 and half hour max to reach the top from base. Base is Karnala Bird Sanctuary. Entrance fee - per head 30Rs. and per bike 25Rs. parking charge.
