MUNCHIES host and sommelier Billy Wagner heads down to the Moselle Valley to give us an insight into the beautiful world of riesling wines.
Along the way, he meets top-class vintners and a handful of colorful characters.
In the first episode, he takes a look at the Roman roots of wine-making, pressing wine and battling with a real-life gladiator.

Thanks for the subtitles! I don't speak German and I like hearing different languages.

+ahabtheplant It's because Germans have a very difficult time speaking English these days due to all the dubbing that occurs in all their movies and television. Mind you, they typically have studied English in school 6-9 years...

One thing the internet has taught me is how poor most people's reading comprehension seems to be. I honestly don't even really notice the subtitles.

I'll be the first to admit I'm a slow reader. I'm the guy that pauses the explanations at the start of movies. But I read and write well when I try. Just slow.

Pax Romana, where the barbarians of Germania were taught to surrender their swords, and stop their petty tribal wars, in exchange for wine cups and drinking like a sir by the Romans. And everybody who didn't comply was taken by imperial enforcers, and sent to the lions as entertainment for the Empire :D

@christiankane9991

+100vasiliy swiss german is a alemannic dialect of the german language and not an accent. Dutch is also a dialect of the german language, but very different (I, as a german, can only understand ~15% of it). German dialects are also very different to one another. But most german dialects are not spoken in their purest form any more. E.g. in most parts of northern germany only the common german language is used with some accent from the original dialect of those regions.

I have to go with my grandparents and other relatives every year to this region in Germany, and it truly is one of the most boring and dull places to ever visit. Besides from the pleasant nature walks and stuffing yourself with the most calorie dense foods ever that is. People over there eat that all day every day and you can tell because most of them are overweight.
