Күн бұрын

In this episode of the MUNCHIES Guide to Sweden, Ivar heads to Sweden’s capital, Stockholm, to learn more about the day-to-day diets of urban Swedes. He visits a food hall for a traditional Swedish lunch, then takes fika to prepare for his big night out. Finally, Ivar hits Aifur, Sweden’s only real Viking restaurant, and meets its owner and dance music legend E-Type to discover how the Vikings informed today’s Swedish cuisine.

Aifur looks amazing, I love the look of the place, the atmosphere must be great. A shame I probably won't get a chance to visit it, at least not any time soon. That grill mix's looks really good, I have to wonder how that sauce tastes. It all looks like great fun.

I can vouch for Aifur. Everyone who visits Stockholm should go there, be aware that you need to make reservations ahead of time as it is a very popular place due to the niche that it fills. The food is excellent, the drink is great and the atmosphere is fucking sick

+WessCNY Not at all :) This is largely about hipster food rather than swedish food. We usually eat more "normal stuff" (with a few exceptions), sitting at a normal dinner table. The traditional Swedish _husmanskost_ also have many things in common with other European cousines, such as the French, German, and Austrian.
@tastychiken

Some of these foods are pretty common though. I regularly eat "strömmingsflundra" for lunch. I see co-workers eating kåldolmar atleast once a week. It's not everyday food but it's definitely eaten regularly! Also I'd say falukorv and pyttipanna are pretty common. The foods mentioned in this part is pretty spot on (except for the viking stuff) imo.

FE NG no, first contacts were in Novgorod. Vikings even helped Novgorodians to capture Kiev and settle it. "Ukraine" just means "on the edge" from russian words "u kraya", it wasnt a state, just a border line.

FE NG you said, that vikings brought mead to some people in Ukraine and they passed it to russians. Well, there were no "ukranians" before polaks invented this term to artificially devide people in that area in 17 century. When vikings came, there were russians only :) No matter where they lived. And mead was russian originally. Its not a big deal, its just a tasty drink. Vikings set up our first monarchy when we asked them to unite our principalities.
@axvic
@axvic 9 жыл бұрын
Jesus f****** christ I can't believe this.. Chrome removed all of the text in my comment TWICE now. So.. TLDR 2.0: Mead has probably been around for over 20,000 years. First evidence of mead production in Europe traces back to circa 3,000 B.C, so long before the Rus and Vikings. First mention of mead in literature is in the proto-hindu Rigveda. Mead was also common in ancient Greece. Medovukha isn't actually mead even though it means mead, if that's what you are talking about. But I guess that's up for debate, but here (Sweden) it wouldn't pass as mead. I think :p Medovukha (honeydrink?) < Myod/Mjöd < Meddhe which is proto-indo-european for Honey. {trivia: Medd is also archaic Old-English for honey, and Meodu means mead which is pronounced remarkably a lot like Mjöd in Swedish which also hints at the possibility that Germanic was more influenced by old-norse than once thought, along with words like Window (Vindauga/Vindöga) and irk > work (yrkja, yrke = profession) etc } So who invented mead? Probably some Africans thousands of years ago. Good thing they brought it with them to Europe and the rest of the world :D /rant ps: I'm by no means an expert or historian, so I might just be full of shit :p
